Photographer tracks down subjects to recreate 30-year-old photos
Do you ever look back on old photos of yourself with your friends (or former flame) and wonder, “what was I wearing?” or, “what was I thinking?” We’ve all been there! But a photographer in the UK known for his portraits of people he meets on the street, has tracked down the subjects of his photos from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s and given them a chance to recreate those old snaps.
Compiled in his book Reunions, Chris Porsz’ pictures cover people from all walks of life, from punks and police officers, and found out what they got up to in the decades since their first photo.
Flick through the gallery above to see the photos and read their respective stories below.
1. Dog and Tina (1985) – Pictured when Tina was 18, the pair travelled together and even had twins, but are no longer together.
2. Tony and Sally (1980) – A year after the photo was taken, the pair got married. They’re now the proud parents of two children, both in their 20s.
3. Five boys running (1987) – The old school friends have kept in touch over the year and are planning a school reunion.
4. Badger and his pink mohawk (1985) – Once a punk, always a punk! He may look the same, but Badger now has five kids and a roadworks job.
5. Sisters in a window (1980) – The sisters have remained close, found husbands (and even second husbands) and still live in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, where the photo was taken.
6. Four best mates (1980) – 35 years on, all four men are still good friends.
7. “Metal Mickey” (1980) – Somehow, Steve Osborn (known as “Metal Mickey” for all the plates and screws in his legs after numerous bike accidents) looks even more ‘80s today than he did in the ‘80s.
8. School girls (1979) – Sandra, Carmen and Maureen lost touch over the years. They each got married and coincidentally had four children each.
9. Donna and Steven (1981) – Just five and three years old when the photo was taken, the siblings still live in Peterborough.
10. Anna and Emma (1980) – Snapped blowing bubbles while waiting for their mum at the ages of 11 and 13, the sisters both became hairdressers and remain close.
