When was the last time you read a book?
Have you ever purchased a book telling yourself you’ll read it once you get home but you just don’t?
Then soon enough it’s been sitting there for weeks or even months collecting dust and you’re yet to turn the pages.
The Japanese actually created a word for it: tsundoku.
Tsundoku has been defined as the practice of purchasing books without the purpose of reading it.
Many people have admitted to tsundoku, saying they buy the books for the aesthetic and also find comfort in having the books just there.
Therapist and author Marisa Peer has insisted it's not that big of a deal if you’re guilty of tsundoku because there are still good intentions behind your actions.
"Many of us decide that a new year's goal is to read more, perhaps focusing on classics or a list such as the 100 books to read before you die," she told The Daily Mail.
"We invest in a number of these titles in the hope that owning them will spur us into action. Most of us either don't stick at it long enough for it to become a long-term habit."
