New Maya Angelou documentary about wisdom and age
Maya Angelou’s story is truly miraculous. Born in St. Louis, she grew up with no formal education and overcame abuse to become one of the most inspiring and recognisable senior voices of her generation. Angelou is the famed author of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and was catapulted to fame when she read her poetry on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Now, Angelou’s wonderful life and wisdom is set to be captured in a documentary by her grandson Colin. Maya Angelou and Still I Rise is completely crowdfunded, and has received support from the likes of The Huffington Post and American Vogue.
For those who don’t know Angelou’s work, the film stands alone as a powerful story about wisdom, adversity and defying the boundaries of age. While Angelou passed away in 2014 at age 86, much of the filming was completed before that time, so it will often a rare glimpse into the icon’s final years.
The film premiered January 26th at Sundance Film Festival.
