8 surprising facts about the Bee Gees
Here are a few fun facts you may not have known about the famous band, the Bee Gees.
1. You may know that the Bee Gees consisted of brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice – but did you know they had an older sister called Lesley and a younger brother called Andy?
2. Andy almost joined the band later in their career, but tragically died, aged 30, before that could happen.
3. The Bee Gees are in the top money makers of all time. In terms of record sales, they are up there with The Beatles, Paul McCartney, Elvis, Garth Brooks and Michael Jackson.
4. Not only did they write their own music, they also wrote for many other artists, including “Islands in The Stream”for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
5. The band’s album Living Eyes, holds the title as the first album to be manufactured on CD.
6. The band only got involved with the soundtrack for John Travolta’s Saturday Night Live after it was filmed. The songs were all written in one weekend.
7. Barry Gibb almost died as a child. He was badly burned at 18 months old, when hot tea was spilled on him.
8. Robin also had a near death experience, when he and his fiancé were involved in a horrific train crash that killed 49 people.
