8 iPhone photo tips you’ll want to know about

Take better photos on your iPhone with these clever tips and tricks.

1. Use the volume button to take a photo

The volume buttons on the side of your iPhone also act like the shutter button on a normal camera, making it much easier to snap horizontal photos and selfies if you’re so inclined.

2. There’s a shortcut to the camera

Instead of logging on to your phone to get to the camera app, swipe up on the camera icon located on the bottom right of your lock screen. This will take you straight to the camera app, perfect for capturing those quick moments.

3. Time your photos

Just in case you didn’t know, the iPhone camera app comes with a timer. In the camera app, click on the clock icon on the top bar and choose your desired time.

4. Use a grid to help align photos

If you have trouble getting your photos straight, a photo grid will help you. Go to “Settings” and scroll down to “Photos Camera” and turn on “Grid”. A nine-box grid will appear when you take photos, making it easier to line up your photographs properly.

5. Focus the photo

To ensure your photos are always sharp and focused, tap on the screen where your main subject is positioned.

6. Take multiple pictures quickly

If you’re trying to capture a fast-paced event, use the iPhone’s burst mode to take multiple pictures quickly. Simple hold down the shutter and the camera will rapidly take photos until you let go.

7. Capture a panorama

It’s easy to capture sweeping landscapes with an iPhone. When you open your camera app, swipe right until you reach “Pano” mode. Now keep your hands steady as you move the iPhone to take the panoramic photo. Don’t worry about unsteady hands as the phone has a line to follow to keep the panorama as straight as possible.

8. Edit your photos

There’s a ton of fancy features available on your iPhone to enhance your photos. Open a photo on your iPhone and tap the “Edit” button on the top right corner. From there you’ll have options to crop the photo, apply a filter or adjust the light and colour.
