A Golden Girls café has opened in New York City
It may have been off the air for 25 years, but beloved sitcom Golden Girls is still very much alive, albeit in a very unexpected place. Earlier this year, Rue La Rue Café opened in Manhattan, and it’s even better than you could possibly imagine.
The café is the brainchild of Michael La Rue, a close friend of “Golden Girl” Rue McClanahan (who played Blanche Devereaux). When she passed away in 2010, La Rue inherited many of her possessions, including props and knick-knacks from the show’s set, which he used to decorate the café.
Episodes of the Emmy-winning program play at the café, while patrons can treat themselves to a number of Golden Girls-themed desserts – and yes, there’s plenty of cheesecake. There’s Dorothy’s salted caramel cheese cake, the coconut Betty White cake, Rue’s Orange Poppyseed Cake (one of Rue’s own recipes), Sophia’s cure for depression cookies and much more.
