The "devastating" decision that Luke Perry’s family made
Luke Perry’s family made a tough call on the day of the actor’s death, an insider has revealed.
The Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 star was rushed into a Californian hospital after suffering a massive stroke on Wednesday, February 27.
He was then put under heavy sedation to allow his brain and body to recover after the attack – however, his condition did not improve even after several days, the insider told Us Weekly.
“Luke’s loved ones were hoping they’d pull him out of it after 48 hours or so,” they said. “But he never recovered. It was devastating.”
On Monday, five days after Perry’s admission to hospital, his family – including fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Rachel “Minnie” Sharp and children Sophie and Jack – made the difficult decision to take him off life support.
The actor tragically died at the age of 52.
Jack, the 21-year-old son of Perry and Sharp, has shared a tribute to his late father on Instagram.
“I’ll miss you every day that I walk this earth,” he wrote. “I’ll do whatever I can to carry on your legacy and make you proud. I love you Dad.”
Jack, a pro wrestler known as ‘Jungle Boy’, also cancelled his appearance at an upcoming wrestling show in Los Angeles.
His younger sister Sophie also shared a statement on her Instagram account.
“I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I,” the 18-year-old wrote.
“I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it's all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love.”
