You won’t believe how much Rafael Nadal’s French Open watch cost
Rafael Nadal sported a £540,000 (NZ$1,028,958) limited edition watch as he won his 11th French Open title on Sunday, breezing past Austrian Dominic Thiem in straight sets,
The Spaniard continues his dominance at the French Open with a record success at Roland Garros.
But as he lifted the familiar trophy, fans couldn’t help but notice Nadal’s eye-catching Richard Mille timepiece, which is valued at a remarkable £540,000 and is one of just 50 that were produced by the luxury Swiss watch company.
The RM27-03 is just one of a number of flashy watches Nadal has worn during his playing career. He sported an even more expensive model, the RM27-02 valued at £580,000 during the 2015 French Open.
The timepieces are as light as possible – as little as 20 grams – so the watch doesn’t hinder Nadal’s serve or tennis strokes when he’s on the court.
“In the beginning there was a little bit of transition, we had to work together to adjust everything to my wrist,” Nadal previously told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s like you are wearing nothing. It’s part of my skin.”
In total Nadal has won 17 Grand Slams during his career - a record which also includes three US Opens, two Wimbledons and one Australian Open.
