Young cancer patient able to attend school thanks to robot
An Australian primary school student who is battling leukaemia has been able to attend school “virtually”, thanks to a robot.
Year 5 student Brodie Mullin was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia in July 2016. He has missed large chunks of school due to his therapy and need for rest and recovery.
However, a robot provided by mining efficiency company Deswick has allowed Brodie to get back into the classroom and keep learning.
In a video shared by the school on March 10, Brodie is able to catch up with his friends, roll around the class room and even attend reading groups.
Brodie’s mother Bianca Mullin told The Courier Mail the robot has helped “break the ice” between Brodie and his class following his extended absences from school.
“The fact is if he had gone back to school after five weeks of absolutely no contact with the school, he would have been really self-conscious,” she told the publication.
Brodie was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia in July 2016.
