“Bigger Hearts” film tackles the difficulties of living with dementia

If you’re currently a caregiver for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, you’ll know just how difficult, heartbreaking and painful it can be at times. On the other hand, it can also be incredibly rewarding, and it’s so important to remember that no two dementia sufferers are the same – and we, as a community, should be doing more to support them.

That’s what Ballarat-based project, Bigger Hearts, is trying to accomplish. By speaking to dementia patients and their carers and learning what kind of support they need, they’re helping to build a more dementia-friendly community.

In October last year, the project released the film above, which candidly discusses the challenges of living (and caring for someone) with dementia, and what can be done to improve their quality of life.

Watch it for yourself and tell us in the comments below, what do you think communities can do to create more dementia-friendly environments?
