Cal Wilson's heartbreaking final post
Cal Wilson, the beloved New Zealand comedian and TV personality, died on Wednesday at the age of 53 after a short illness. She was surrounded by friends and family at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Wilson was born in Christchurch, and moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2003. She quickly became a fixture on the local comedy circuit, winning the Melbourne Comedy Festival's Best Newcomer Award in 2001. She went on to appear at the festival 14 times throughout her career and served as a member of its board.
Wilson also had a successful TV career, appearing on shows such as SkitHOUSE, Rove Live, Thank God You're Here, Good News Week, Spicks and Specks, The Project and more.
In August last year, Wilson was announced as a new co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off. The show's 17th season began filming last September and premiered in June this year.
Wilson was known for her quick wit, sharp observational humor, and flamboyant personal style. She was also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness.
Wilson is survived by her husband, Chris, and 14-year-old son, Digby.
In her final social media post, Wilson was seen laughing with one of her cats. Fans took to the comment section to express their sadness over her death and what it meant for her beloved pets.

Her death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the entertainment community and fans alike. Australian actress Rebel Wilson wrote on social media that Wilson's death was "so tragic".
"This is so tragic and my heart goes out to Cal's family," she wrote. "I was very very lucky to work with Cal on multiple projects especially over the last few years where she wrote brilliant material for me. She was amazingly talented and amazingly kind."
Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott described the news as "absolutely devastating".
"Cal you are such a beautiful person who always had time for everyone. Was always a pleasure any time I got to work next to you," he said.
"A ray of sunshine. You will be so missed, Cal," fellow Kiwi comedian Melanie Bracewell added.
"Completely heartbreaking news. Cal was the most kind and beautiful soul. Sending all our love to her family," comedian Nazeem Hussain said.
Wilson's cause of death has not yet been released.
