There’s a reason why we’re so heartbroken when a celebrity dies, and it’s not just because we’ve been made to feel like we know them. It’s because we see them as somehow immortal. After all, they have movies, music and books to carry on their name. So when one dies (especially if it’s completely unexpected) it shatters that illusion.
But as tragic as their loss is, it’s an important reminder that life is fragile and no one – not even the likes of John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe – can live forever.
