73-year-old war veteran donates kidney to friend
A 73-year-old war veteran has donated one of his kidneys to his commander from the Vietnam War, in a heart-warming story of a bond that transcends distance and time.
Veterans John Middaugh and Bill Warner served together in Vietnam and both men received the Purple Heart award for their services. While they’ve been separated by distance and time, the pair retain an everlasting bond to this day.
So when Mr Warner needed a kidney, Mr Middaugh was more than happy to offer one of his.
Mr Warner said: “It’s been some ride. So we’re looking forward for me getting my appetite back, getting my weight back, getting my handicap back down to 17. It’s up to 36 now.”
Mr Middaugh has been released; Mr Warner remains hospitalised in good condition.
