Are vision problems the cause of headaches?

There’s hardly a single person who hasn’t suffered the numbing pressure of headaches. While most attacks can be solved by resting or a handful of painkillers, there are some that would benefit from a trip to the optometrist. You see, when you should be wearing glasses and you don’t (or you don’t know you should be), it can cause headaches.

Farsightedness (hyperopia), in particular, strains the eyes and will often cause headaches when left uncorrected. Why? When farsighted people try to see things up close, the lens constantly strains to adjust and focus. They’ll often feel the eye strain and the beginnings of a headache after reading or using the computer/tablet/smartphone for a long period of time. The problem, however, is that many people don’t realise their headaches are linked to vision problems as our eyes do make up the focus to a certain degree. Plus, it’s often written off as computer eye strain. However, if you get frequent headaches or you get double vision or if your vision temporarily goes blurry, it’s likely that you might have a vision problem. A simple eye test at the optometrist can determine whether farsightedness is the cause. The good news is that a pair of spectacles will solve everything and headaches will quickly be a thing of the past.
