The only time Princess Margaret ever saw the Queen cry
Queen Elizabeth is the longest reigning monarch in British history and throughout the years has continually portrayed herself in a stoic and composed manner.
However, a new documentary Elizabeth: Our Queen has revealed the one-time Princess Margaret ever saw her older sister cry.
Princess Josephine Loewenstein, who was a close friend of Margaret, revealed in the documentary that Margaret confided in her about the rare moment.
“I’ve only seen my sister cry once,” she said Princess Margaret told her.
“It was when the press put all the articles about her not getting on with Mrs [Margaret] Thatcher.”
It was widely speculated for years that the former Prime Minister and the Queen had a difficult relationship.
The Sun formerly reported that the Queen once exclaimed, “Can’t that woman just sit down?” once when Margaret Thatcher was staying at Balmoral.
It is believed that Margaret was intimidated by the Queen and would reportedly drink whiskey before their weekly visits for a spurt of courage.
