5 tips for spring-cleaning your wardrobe
If you’re struggling to shut the wardrobe door or find the simplest of clothing items, it may be time to put an afternoon aside for some thorough spring cleaning.
Here are five tips on how to tackle the clutter, and maybe even enjoy the process.
1. Leave your excuses at the door
How many times have you spent far too long pondering a questionable piece of clothing, only to throw it back in the “keep” pile? It’s likely that clothing item never came out in the light of day again. A good rule for everyday clothes is if you haven’t worn it in two months, out it goes.
2. Put on some music
There’s nothing that makes you feel more like yourself than singing along to your favourite artist or album. Rather than treating your cleaning as a chore, try to find the fun in it so you don’t rush it and do a sloppy job.
3. Take everything out of your wardrobe
Rather than going to battle with stray coat hangers and loose threads, take absolutely everything out of your wardrobe and put it on the bed. That way you can refill your wardrobe piece by piece with the things you like, and lay it out how you want.
4. Make multiple piles
“Keep” and “discard” are simply not enough. Make additional piles for giveaway, donate and undecided. At the tail end of your purge, try on everything in your “undecided” pile and only keep it if you fall head over heels in love with it again. Use tubs or boxes to help if need be.
5. Invest in organisation
Now that your boxes are packed, take a good look at the beautiful layout of your freshly organised wardrobe. Heaven knows it won’t stay like that for long, so think about what kind of home accessories could help keep it in shape. Consolidation is crucial. Invest in slim hangers, canvas shoes compartments, hampers, draw inserts and anything else that will keep your new spring wardrobe looking as fresh as a daisy.
