Prince Charles honours the Queen Mother

Prince Charles has paid homage to the Queen Mother on what would have been her 121st birthday with a touching post on Instagram.

Known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, she was born Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. She married King George VI  and was born on August 4 in 1900, passing away in 1952.

The Prince of Wales shared a touching post on the Clarence House Instagram page in honour of his grandmother, who lived at Clarence House until her death.

Prince Charles posted: "On this day in 1900, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother was born.”

The post was shared with two photos of the Queen Mother. The first photo is of a mantelpiece in Clarence House — where Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall still live, sharing family photos of the Queen Mother.

The second photo is a black-and-white snap of Charles, aged 11, standing behind his grandmother, who is holding a two-month-old Prince Andrew.

Princess Anne is also in the image, aged nine, smiling at her new baby brother.

One of the Queen's corgis is also sitting in the photo, which was taken in the garden of Clarence House. The Queen Mother lived there at the time and had done since 1953

Prince Charles continued in his post: "The Queen Mother, The Prince of Wales's Grandmother, lived at Clarence House for nearly 50 years. The silver vase with rosemary seen in the first photo was given to The Queen Mother as a gift on her 100th birthday.”

The Queen Mother passed away at the age of 101 in 2002, seven weeks after the death of her youngest daughter, Princess Margaret. At the time of her death, she was the longest-living member of the British royal family in history.

The Queen Mother's birthday tribute was not the only good wishes shared by Clarence House Instagram on August 4.

This year, the date also marks Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday and to mark the occasion, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, all shared tributes of their own to the Duchess of Sussex, who celebrated her milestone by announcing a women-led mentoring initiative.
