Prince Charles' rare comment about grandson Prince George — and his surprise gift for him
It is no secret that grandparents know how to spoil their grandchildren, whether that be in an excess amount of hugs, attention or presents.
And despite being heir to the throne and living a very unique life, Prince Charles’ affection for his grandchildren is no different.
In an upcoming documentary, titled Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,the Prince of Wales reveals a special present that he has prepared for his eldest grandson, 5-year-old Prince George.
The royal revealed that after George’s birth in July 2013, he planted dozens of trees at his Scottish home of Birkhall in honour of his grandson.
In the documentary, Charles gestures to the line of trees and says: “This is George’s wood.”
Charles, who is vocal about his commitment to conservation and the environment, said: “As I get older, all I really long for is to plant trees.”
“I hope it will be quite amusing for George, as they grow up, and he grows up.”
Charles’ wife, Camilla, also appears in the documentary and added: “You can’t believe how much it’s grown. It was tiny when it was all planted. The next thing you know, you’re being dwarfed by it.”
Recently, Prince Harry commended his father for bringing attention to environmental issues for so many years.
While in Sydney on his royal tour, Harry gave a speech at the Australian Geographic Awards, referring to speeches made by his father over the past 50 years.
“My father and others have been speaking about the environment for decades – not basing it on fallacy or new-age hypothesis, but rooted in science and facts, and the sobering awareness of our environmental vulnerability,” said Harry.
“And while those speeches would sometimes fall on deaf ears, he and others were unrelenting in their commitment to preserve the most valuable resource we have – our planet.”
Charles will soon become a grandfather for the fourth time as Harry and Meghan prepare to welcome their firstborn into the world next year.
Charles is already a proud grandfather to George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Following Louis’ birth in April, Charles released a happy statement on behalf of himself and Camilla.
“We are both so pleased at the news,” he said.
“It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”
