Royal family reacts to Lilibet's arrival
The world was astonished by the announcement of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes baby girl on Sunday afternoon.
However, it seems none were more delighted than the royal family, and specifically Queen Elizabeth herself who proudly congratulated the royal couple on the birth of Lilibet Diana.
"Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana," Her Majesty declared.
"The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news.
"Lilibet is Her Majesty's 11th great-grandchild."
The message was then accompanied by a photograph of Harry and Meghan on the day of their royal wedding.
Prince Charles released his own statement via social media, saying: "Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana.
"Wishing them all well at this time."
Clarence House released a photo of Harry and Meghan alongside their son Archie, who can now proudly say he is a big brother to little Lilibet.
Prince William and Kate wrote: "We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili.
"Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie."
Harry and Meghan say that while their little girl’s official first name is Lilibet, she will be known as “Lili”.
Lili was born at 11.40 am on June 4 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital California, weighing in at 7lbs, 11oz (3.5kg).
Her first name, Lilibet, is a nod to Queen Elizabeth’s nickname and her middle name Diana is in honour of her grandmother and Harry's mother, who tragically last her life in 1997.
"On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," the Sussexes said, in a statement.
Prince Harry and Meghan announced the sex of their baby back in March.
"She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe.
"Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."
The couple said both the baby and her mother were doing well and are resting at home.
No photos of the newborn or the Sussexes was released with the incredible announcement.
