Recipe: Macaroni and cheese
A quick family dinner that everyone will love, this macaroni cheese is easy to make and will not disappoint.
Serves: Four to six
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 55 minutes
Ingredients:
- 700ml full-fat milk
- 350g macaroni
- 50g butter, plus a little extra for greasing
- 50g plain flour
- 175g mature cheddar cheese, grated
- 50g parmesan, grated
- 50g coarse white breadcrumbs
Method:
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Cook pasta in a large saucepan of boiling salted water, until just tender. Drain well.
- Melt the butter in a medium pan. When foaming, add the flour, then cook, stirring constantly, for one min on a low heat. Remove saucepan from heat. Whisk in the milk. Return to medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce boils and thickens. Stir in cheese.
- Lightly grease an ovenproof dish. Stir cooked macaroni into cheese sauce. Spoon into dish. Sprinkle the Parmesan and breadcrumbs over the top, then bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
- Serve macaroni cheese with salad, if desired.
