5 big mistakes you make cleaning windows
Nobody really loves cleaning windows BUT with the right preparation and technique, this chore can be quick, easy and effective. You’ve just got to know where you’re going wrong. Read on to find out more.
1. You choose a sunny day
While a warm summers day may seem the perfect time to clean windows, the blazing sun will end up drying the cleaner on the hot windows before you can wipe it off leaving streaks and stains. Try washing on a dry, cloudy day or on the shady side of the house if you are working in the heat.
2. You forget to dust
Hoovering or dusting the sills and sashes before you start washing is essential for preventing a dusty, muddy mess when water meets dirt.
3. You skimp on the window cleaner
This is one job where it pays to be generous. You need to cover your windows with cleaner, especially if they are extra dirty. Cleaner dissolves the dirt so it can be completely wiped away. If you don’t use enough you’ll be left with streaks.
4. You use the old newspaper trick
Some people swear by this technique but generally speaking a microfibre cloth is a much better option as it leaves windows shiny and streak-free.
5. You dry with thin paper towel
Thin paper towel is a nightmare for window cleaning. It usually breaks and leaves a trail of lint in its wake. Try a super thick and absorbent towel that is up to the task.
