10 foods you shouldn’t store in fridge
If your fridge is feeling a bit cluttered, it could be because you’re refrigerating products that don’t need to be kept cool. Here is a list of items you can and should remove from your fridge during yor next clean out.
Onions: Onions are stored best in the pantry in the mesh bag in which they originally are sold.
Garlic: Garlic can survive for several months in the pantry and doesn’t need to be kept cool or sealed.
Batteries: While they're not a food, it’s a common misconception that storing batteries in the fridge or freezer will prolong their life, but it can actually have the opposite effect.
Tomatoes: Leaving tomatoes in the fridge can actually affect their flavour and texture. Store them outside of the fridge, loose, for best keeping.
Coffee: Don’t refrigerate your coffee beans: the cold can create condensation that will affect the rich flavour of your beans.
Bread: You might think the fridge will make your bread last longer, but it actually dries it out. Freeze extra bread instead if you’re not going to eat it soon.
Potatoes: Keep potatoes in the cupboard; just be sure to keep them away from the onions, as it can cause the latter to rot.
Hot sauce: Hot sauce can be kept in the pantry, which actually makes it less viscous and easier to pour.
Bananas: If you store green bananas in the fridge, they won’t ripen. Only refrigerate them once they have ripened.
Honey: Honey should be kept in the pantry. Chilling honey can actually cause it to thicken, making it hard to pour and spread.
