Duchess Kate receives new royal duty from Queen Elizabeth
After 65 years in the role, Queen Elizabeth II has passed on a royal duty to her granddaughter-in-law Duchess Kate.
The Queen has handed over a patronage with British charity Family Action to the Duchess of Cambridge.
The announcement was made official on Wednesday morning as the Duchess attended her first event as royal patron at Peterley Manor Farm in Buckinghamshire, England, joining parents and children for Christmas-themed activities like decorating and making eco-friendly reindeer food.
Founded in 1869, Family Action provides practical, emotional and financial support for families in need.
The Duchess first visited the organisation’s base in Lewisham in January, when she launched FamilyLine support phone line.
Chair of trustees Mary Fulton said the charity is “honoured” to have the Duchess’ support.
“Her keen interest particularly in the Early Years fits well with Family Action’s provision of high quality perinatal mental health services, pre-schools and Children’s Centres across the country,” Fulton said.
“Family Action looks forward to working with the Duchess in the years to come.”
Queen Elizabeth assumed the role of patron in 1953, who took over from her grandmother Queen Mary.
