Meghan Markle to break centuries old tradition at her wedding
Meghan Markle is no stranger to breaking tradition – she plans to have her mother walk her down to aisle instead of her father – and now the royal-to-be will defy another centuries old tradition by making a speech at her wedding reception.
In Britain, traditionally the groom, father of the bride, and the best man make speeches after the wedding. It is not common for the bride to make a speech, but of course it does happen sometimes.
The Sunday Times report that the former actress will speak during a reception at Windsor Castle following the wedding ceremony on May 19 which is expected to be attended by 800 guests
It will be an affectionate tribute to her new husband, Harry, and will include thanks to the Queen and her family.
"She wants to have the chance to thank her husband and everyone who has supported them," a source told the Times. "Harry thinks it's a great idea."
The publication understands that Markle’s father, Thomas, a former Hollywood lighting director, will not be making a speech.
