Why the Queen and Prince Philip rarely kiss in public
Despite it going against royal protocol, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have never shied away from the odd public peck or holding hands. But chances are you haven’t seen the Queen and Prince Philip putting on many public displays of affection – and for good reason.
According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, it’s because the Queen mother absolutely detested it. In fact, when Philip gave Her Majesty a peck on the day she was made Queen, her mother was furious.
“It is very rare for members of the royal family to show affection publicly on official engagements, it doesn't look appropriate or professional,” he told The Express. “The Queen and Prince Philip almost never embrace in public.”
Clearly, things have come a long way, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge famously smooching on the Buckingham Palace balcony after their wedding, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been spotted kissing multiple times.
