Data pulled from the Social Security Administration’s baby names tracker in the US shows that traditional girl names are growing increasingly popular. Here are seven classic girl names that are making a comeback.
1. Alice
This name meaning “of the nobility” was popular in the early part of the 19th century. It was ranked as the 76th most popular girls name in 2016.
2. Betty
Betty, which is sometimes shortened from Elizabeth, means “God is my oath”. In 1934, it was ranked as the second most popular girls name in the US.
3. Charlotte
The feminised version of Charles has grown in popularity since the British princess was born in 2015.
4. Dorothy
Dorothy is a girl’s name that has been made popular through the character from Wizard of Oz.
5. Margaret
Margaret can mean “pearl” and “flower”. During the late 1800s through to the 1930s, the name was popular.
6. Rose
Rose has picked up in popularity since 2010 and has been growing steadily as a girl’s name.
7. Violet
Another flower name, Violet currently sits at number 47 for girl’s names in the US.
