Shocking new details emerge of elderly woman who was bashed at her retirement village
The daughter of an elderly woman who was attacked in her bedroom in a retirement village says that her mother “doesn’t want to be in this world anymore” as she feels so unsafe.
Patricia, 84, had only just moved to the North Turramurra facility six weeks ago and came face-to-face with a stranger when she returned to her room on Saturday afternoon.
The man assaulted her before fleeing, but she was left with a fractured nose, bleeding on her brain and cuts to her face, chest and arms.
She was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition and continues to undergo treatment at Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Patricia’s daughter Caroline said that her mother was recently widowed and had arrived back to her new home just before the attack.
"This has been a very, very shocking and distressing event in our family and mum is a very, very strong lady, and we will help her get over this, hopefully, and get her home again," she told reporters in Sydney on Wednesday.
"But this should never, ever, ever happen to the most vulnerable of vulnerable in our community and we are absolutely outraged, appalled."
Caroline also mentioned that Patricia’s husband died in April, which is an event that she is still grieving over.
"And now she's got to grieve the loss of her independence and her safety and her security in a home that she'd just moved into. She'd only been there six weeks," Caroline said.
"I feel so sad that my mum, who is 84, who's just lost her husband, is now in a position where she just doesn't want to be in this world anymore because she just feels so unsafe."
Investigators are now seeking further assistance from the community and would like to speak with anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area.
