The Queen's sweet anniversary gift to Prince Philip
When you’ve been together for 70 years you could be forgiven for not wanting to pull out all the bells and whistles when another anniversary comes around. But the Queen did exactly that this week, with a sweet anniversary gift for Prince Philip.
Her Majesty appointed her beau, the Duke of Edinburgh, a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) overnight, a special order only she is capable of giving.
“Awards in the Royal Victorian Order are made personally by The Queen, for services to the Sovereign,” a post on the Royal Family’s Twitter account said.
The order is designed to recognise distinguished personal service to the monarch.
The Queen and Prince Philip reportedly celebrated the anniversary with a small, private family get-together at Windsor Castle, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
