Royal chef reveals Princess Diana’s secret battle with the nanny

She was beloved by all who met her, but new details have been released claiming there was one person in particular Princess Diana did not see eye to eye with – the nanny.

The royals’ chef at the time, Darren McGrady, told HELLO! that Diana often clashed with the nanny when it came to Princes William and Harry’s diets.

“She wasn't strict at all,” he said. “She let them be boys, young boys! There was always a battle between her and Nanny. Nanny would say, ‘No, they're eating their dinner, they're having cabbage.’ and the Princess would say, ‘No, if they're with me and they want loaded potato skins and fried chicken then they can have that. And if they don't eat it and they still want pudding, they can have that too!’ She was much more relaxed than Nanny.”

McGrady explained that even though they were royal children, they still wanted to eat like every other kid their age – banana desserts were their favourites, as were burgers and pizza.

However, the boys’ love of junk food never influenced Diana, who never strayed far from her strict, healthy diet. “When I started working for her she said, ‘I want you to take care of the fats and I'll take care of the carbs at the gym’,” McGrady adds. “So dishes like tomato mousse which she really liked, she'd say, ‘Make me a fat-free version’.”

In addition to letting the boys be boys, the royal chef says Diana tried to live as normal a life as was possible when she was at home alone, eating in front of the TV just like the rest of us!
