5 ways you didn’t know you are ruining your sheets
We spend a lot of our time laying on sheets – approximately a third of our lives – so it makes sense that you would want to make them last as long as possible. Here are the five most common mistakes that could be ruining your sheets.
1. You put too many sets of sheets into the washer or dryer
Large items like sheets should always be loosely placed into the washer/dryer so it can tumble freely, which means better cleaning and less tangling. If you’re finding you are jamming sheets in, wash one set at a time instead.
2. You wash sheets on the heavy-duty cycle
A normal cycle is sufficient to clean sheets. Heavy-duty cycles can cause tangling and winkling.
3. You dry them for too long
If you use a dryer for your sheets, be cautious of over-drying your sheets, which can cause them to wear and tear more easily.
4. You don’t change them often enough
Sheets that have been used too long might not be stretched out and unable to recover their shape in the washer and dryer. It’s best to change sheets weekly or fortnightly.
5. You don’t fold your fitted sheets
Don’t just ball your sheets up and throw it in the closet as it can stress and stretch fabric, not to mention cause all those creases.
