The heartwarming reason this man learnt to drive at 79
Passing a driving test is a big achievement no matter what age you are, so when 79-year-old British man Keith Limbert learned that he would receive his driving licence for the first time he was understandably chuffed. But there’s also a heartwarming story behind Keith’s decision to get behind the wheel for the first time in his life.
Now to Love reports that while Keith took lessons as a young man he never got around to taking the test, as his beloved wife Anne did the driving during their 58-year marriage.
But when Anne, who is also 79, had a stroke in 2015, Keith knew that things would have to change and that he would have to start pulling his weight.
On top of that, Anne has started to develop numerous health issues including a breast cancer diagnosis, prompting Keith to get behind the wheel.
"My wife drove me around for 40 years," he said. "She passed first time in 1972, and I didn't know how good I had it."
"She has looked after me long enough and I think it's about time for me to look after her now, " he said. "I owe her."
