Australia Zoo welcomes koala joey
Australia Zoo has the first-born koala joey of the season making his public debut on Tuesday.
The infant male, called Macadamia, will see zoo visitors for the first time after spending his first months in his mother Willow’s pouch.
When Macadamia was born, he would have roughly been the size of a kidney bean before opening his eyes at 22 weeks.
Australia Zoo have said that the joey weighed half a gram when he was born.
The grey bundle is now out of his mother’s pouch and likes to clamber up her hide.
The joey was named Macadamia after the iconic Aussie nut and Australia Zoo is sure visitors will love him just as much.
Macadamia is expected to be fully independent around his first birthday.
Since Macadamia was born, Australia Zoo has welcomed 12 other joeys this season.
