Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan sack entire UK team
In the most obvious sign yet that Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have no plans to return to the UK, the couple has let go of all 15 of their UK-based employees and shut their Buckingham Palace offices.
According to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex let their team know the bad news in January, close to the same time they decided to step back as senior royals and live in Canada.
The publication reported that one or two staff members may be transferred over to other departments amongst the royal household, but most are now in the process of negotiating their redundancy packages.
“Given their decision to step back, an office at Buckingham Place is no longer needed,” an insider told the Daily Mail.
“While the deals are still being finalised and efforts are being made to redeploy people within the royal household, unfortunately there will be some redundancies.”
Among those sacked is the couple’s private secretary, Fiona Mcilwham, and communications chief Sara Latham.
While the news most definitely came as a disappointment to the team, the insider insisted that the “loyal” staffers “understand and respect the decision (the Sussexes) have taken.”
