Space-age machine to make airport bag screening faster
A US company has developed a machine that could revolutionise airport bag screening.
The Qylatron Entry Experience Solution is a honeycomb-shaped machine that basically works like a self-serve X-ray. A traveller walks up to the machine, scans their ticket and puts their carry-on luggage in one of the available lockers, which will then screen the bags.
If the machine picks up any hazardous materials, the luggage is flagged for a more traditional manual check, otherwise the traveller is free to pick up their items and catch the flight.

The Qylatron is estimated to be able to handle 600 guests taking one bag in one hours, working out at roughly 10 guests per minute. Not only could this new system speed up the pre-boarding screening process, but it would also secure your carry-ons as you’re checking in.
Lisa Dalev, founder and CEO of the company behind Qylatron says, “Qylatron itself is a very intelligent learning being, similar to an IBM Watson, but inside a physical system. It interconnects with other systems like it to make itself smarter and to change its decision making processes.”
After a successful trail run with the US Transportation Security Administration it might not be too long before you notice the Qylatron or a machine like it at an airport near you.
