Airline to weigh passengers before boarding
Uzbekistan Airways has announced it will begin weighing passengers, and their carry-on bags, to ensure "flight safety".
Passengers will be asked to weigh in at a "special weighing machine" in the departure zone and all data will remain anonymous, according to the airline.
The weighing machine will only categorise passengers by gender and age group.
"According to the rules of International Air Transport Association, airlines are obliged to carry out the regular procedures of preflight control passengers weighing with hand baggage to observe requirements for ensuring flight safety" the airline said in a statement.
At this stage it is unclear if passengers will incur a fee if they exceed a maximum weight limit.
