How to get an empty seat next to you on your next flight
For those of us who will only ever be able to daydream about flying business or first-class, having a spare seat next to you on a long-haul flight is the next best thing.
And while this essentially may be a random occurrence (if you’re not willing to spring for tickets to the two seats on either side of you) there are some measures you can take to increase the likelihood of having the whole row to yourself.
Research from comparison site Finder.com.au, suggests booking outside the peak periods is your best bet. The data found passenger loadings for aircraft departing Australia are at their lowest in October and highest in December.
So, booking in October increases the likelihood of a spare seat.
Further research from Finder.com.au suggests your airline choice might also be a determining factor. For example, Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways filled 91 per cent of seats last year, while Qantas filled 79.9 per cent in comparison.
So, when it comes to having an extra bit of space on your flight, it might all come down to flight time and airline choice. Do you think you will take this advice?
