What to do with your pets when on holidays
While you could never begrudge someone for wanting to take some much-needed time off, for some pets having their owners away for whatever reason is no holiday. We’re going to have a look at some of the options for pet owners who are going on holidays, so you can figure out which one works is best for you and your furry friend.
1. Pet sitters
Depending on the level of surface you’re after, pet sitters visit your home once or twice a day to make sure your pet is fed, walked and groomed. The downside is your pet still faces a lot of downtime in this option, and it can end up being pretty expensive. If looking for a pet sitter, be sure to check their references thoroughly, and perhaps tell a neighbour to keep an eye out, just so you’re sure that they’re doing the right thing.
2. Kennels and pet homes
If you’ve got the money, one of these facilities might be a good option for your pet and they have the staff and resources that are more than capable of making sure your pet is comfortable while you’re away. That being said, you never really know how your animal is going to react when you put them in that situation so it might not work in all instances. It’s also important to be aware that this option can end up being quite expensive.
3. Friends or family member’s house
While not everyone has the luxury of a friend or family member who can look after their pet, if you do it’s quite a convenient solution. Not only will your pet be staying at a place you know with people it is probably accustomed to, you will also enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your pet is in good hands. Be sure to avoid some form of compensation, even if it’s just a little, so they know you’re not taking advantage of the situation.
4. Take your pet with you
Some pet owners simply can’t bear to be torn from their furry friends, and because of this opt to take their pets with them on holidays. While this option isn’t for everybody and on some trips it’s certainly not possible, it can certainly make for some interesting holiday snaps if you have the means to make it happen! That being said this method is understandably quite expensive and can perhaps be prohibitive on your trip, so only do it if you feel you must.
