Why you should never take soap from hotels
Pocketing a handful of miniature shampoos, soaps and conditioners is as much a part of the hotel experience as room service, but it turns out this is doing more harm than good.
Leaving these complimentary cleansing products after your stay, instead of stashing them in your carry-on luggage, might actually be helping someone who’s in need.
A charity called Clean the World is putting used hotel soaps to good use, colleting, processing and sanitising these products before turning them into new soaps for people in need.
World Health Organisation estimates suggest there are 2.5 billion people worldwide without access to clean sanitation, with 525,000 children under the age of five dying every year from diseases that are related to poor hygiene standards.
Which is where Clean the World comes in. The company processes used toiletries and distributes them to impoverished people in over 115 countries, ultimately saving lives.
Some of the world’s biggest hotel companies like Hilton, Disney and InterContinental Hotels Group have already signed up for the program. So next time you’re leaving your hotel room, think twice about stashing that hotel soap.
