Hilarious “missing” tourist search goes viral
A tourist has taken the term “self-discovery” to a whole new meaning in a news story that has gone viral on social media sites.
In the snippet of the newspaper article, a woman was reported to be missing at Iceland’s Eldgjá canyon in 2012 after she failed to return to her tour bus from her walk.
The driver alerted authorities, which soon dispatched search teams around the hillsides for the woman described as about 160cm tall and wearing dark clothes.
However, it was later revealed that the woman had been a part of the search party all along.
According to the newspaper, the woman “had changed clothes” before getting back on the bus and “joined in the search” because she “didn’t recognise the description of herself”.
The search was called off at around 3 am as “it became clear the missing woman was, in fact, accounted for and searching for herself”.

Sveinn Runarsson, the police chief in charge of the rescue, told The Independent at the time that “the people on the bus had not been counted correctly”.
