Stomach-churning footage shows plane struggling to land in intense storm
Terrifying footage shows a number of planes struggling to land at airports across Europe as they face 144km winds.
One clip reveals the moment a propeller plane is blown from side to side by the storm as it landed at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam.
Despite the harsh weather conditions, the pilot safely landed the plane using a technique known as “crosswind landing”.
The Eurowings Dash 8 Q400 plane was battered in all directions by the wind but the pilot successfully landed it sideways.
The plane was flying from German island Sylt and held between 70 and 78 passengers.
Two other clips show aborted landings. One propeller plane was skidding along the tarmac when the pilot decided to ascend into the air again.
The harsh storm, named Friederike, left nine people dead across Europe and shut down transportation in parts of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The storm had winds reach up to 202km as it disrupted the schedules of millions of people.
