Homemade onion rings

These classic, old-fashioned onion rings are sure to satisfy even your strongest junk-food craving. If you knew how easy they are to make, we bet you’d have started sooner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 ¼ cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of milk
  • ¾ cup of dried bread crumbs
  • Salt
  • 1 litre of oil to fry

Method:

  1. Add oil to a deep fryer and heat to 185°C.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt to taste.
  3. Coat onions in mixture and set aside.
  4. Add milk and egg into mixture and whisk together.
  5. Coat onions in batter.
  6. Spread bread crumbs in a dish and coat onions in crumbs.
  7. Deep fry coated onions three to four at a time for two to three minutes each until dark gold in colour.
  8. Let drain atop paper towel.
  9. Season with salt, serve.
