Ted Bundy cold case finally solved after 51 years

In March 1973 the half-naked body of Ann Woodward was found brutally murdered on the floor inside the pub that she owned with her husband.

The 46-year-old mother's body was discovered between two pool tables, with her shirt unbuttoned and pants used to strangle her.

Her murder has haunted the small US desert town of Moab, Utah for over half a century. While police were never able to find her killer, they believed Ted Bundy was the likely culprit, as he had raped and killed multiple women in the area around the time of her death.

While Bundy admitted to thirty murders, his real victim count is unknown.

However, they had not been able to prove that he was the culprit due to a lack of evidence, so police assumed she was just another one of his unnamed victims.

25 other men, including Douglas Keith Chudomelka, had also been of interest to police after the crime, as witnesses spotted Chudomelka's sedan parked near the victims car on the night of the murder.

However, when Chudomelka was interviewed the next day, he denied being at the bar, and insisted that he was at a nearby tavern.

His girlfriend at the time, a woman named Joyce, also backed his statement and said he was home at the time of the murder on March 2, 1973.

A few months later, Chudomelka was arrested on a domestic violence charge, with an angry Joyce claiming he had been the one who killed Ann Woodward, but she soon retracted her statement.

With no new leads, the case went cold, but forward-thinking Police Chief Melvin Dalton, decided to keep DNA evidence from both the victim and all potential suspects anyways, in hopes that one day the right technology would be used to identify the killer.

In 2006, Dalton reopened the case, but had no luck until September 2023, when Detective Jeremy Dexler decided to uncover the two boxes of evidence collected from the initial investigation and send it to the crime lab.

The DNA evidence had sat at the Moab police department's storage units for over 50 years and was not easy to locate as it had been moved to another building.

The evidence was crucial in solving the cold case.

When results from the crime lab came back at the end of May 2024, they confirmed that a substantial amount of Chudomelka’s DNA was on the inside of Ann’s pants and on all of the buttons of her shirt.

This was enough to confirm that Chudomelka was the one responsible for Ann Woodward's murder. He was 36 when he committed the crime.

Chudomelka was not known to the victim, but Detective Drexler believes that he may have played a game of poker with Ann when he visited the pub, and may have been angry at her for beating him.

He added that it could have also been a crime of opportunity rather than rage as he had a violent history.

Detective Drexler praised Dalton's forward-thinking for being the reason why they solved the case.

“This case hinged on the hair Dalton pulled in 1973,” Drexler said.

“I have no idea how he knew that we would be able to do that today. Dalton made this case very easy for us in that aspect.”

Chudomelka passed away in 2002 at the age of 67 without ever paying for his crime, but County Lawyer Stephen Stocks believes that if he was still alive, he would've been found guilty of murder.

“I hope today brings some closure to the family,” he said.

“I truly believe had this been presented to a jury, Chudomelka would have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the murder of Ann Woodward.”

Images: Moab Police Department

King Charles shares birthday photo of baby Princess Anne

To commemorate Princess Anne's birthday, the official social media accounts of the monarchy posted two images – one captured at Buckingham Palace on May 6 at the King's Coronation, ceremony, with King Charles and his sister both adorned in regal attire, and the other of the siblings at a very young age.

In the Coronation picture, King Charles dons the resplendent Imperial State Crown, his purple satin coronation tunic, and the dignified Robe of Estate, offering a cheerful smile to his sister. Princess Anne, meanwhile, dressed in the uniform of the Colonel of the Blues and Royals, wears a striking red plumed hat and a military ensemble.

Personally appointed by her brother, King Charles, Princess Anne led a procession of 6,000 armed services personnel through London's streets in her capacity as "Gold-Stick-in Waiting" at the historic event - the first woman to fulfill this role of being responsible for the monarch's safety. This tradition traces its origins back to the 15th century, with the roles of Gold Stick and Silver Stick established to safeguard the monarch from harm.

However, it was the addition of the throwback image from the family archive that really turned heads: A snapshot from 1951, capturing a two-year-old Charles gently reaching over to clasp the hand of his nearly one-year-old sister Anne. This delightful moment crystallises their sibling bond.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily)

This birthday holds a bittersweet sentiment for Princess Anne, as it marks her first celebration since the passing of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Often lauded as the hardest-working member of the royal family, Princess Anne has seamlessly resumed her commitments following the loss. Anne Heche's blood test results revealed after horror smash

An investigation of Anne Heche’s blood results have detected “the presence of drugs” following her horror smash.

The US actress was pulled out of her burning car after she smashed into a mansion in Los Angeles while driving a terrifying 140km/h on August 5.

The 53-year-old suffered severe injuries and soon after the crash fell into a coma and has not regained consciousness since.

Almost a week after the incident, a Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Officer confirmed there was a “presence of drugs” in Anne’s blood system.

“Based on the blood draw, it revealed the presence of drugs, however additional testing is required to rule out any substances that were administered at the hospital as part of her medical treatment,” they told Fox News Digital.

"Any secondary drugs [takes] up to 30 days for [a] secondary test to come back.”

TMZ previously reported that Anne had cocaine in her system upon arrival at the hospital, but that is yet to be confirmed.

The crash is currently being investigated by the LAPD who have confirmed that if Anne is found to have been drunk she would face significant charges.

"If found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanour DUI hit and run. No arrests have been made so far,” a representative said.

Anne’s representative has confirmed that she is in an “extreme critical condition”.

“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,” her representative said.

“She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”

Image: Getty

New details of actor Anne Heche's fiery crash

A man who witnessed actress Anne Heche’s fiery car crash in Los Angeles has described the life-threatening incident as “horrific” and revealed he could “hardly breathe” while trying to help the trapped star.

Lynne Bernstein said he and his wife saw a car driving down their street at a “high rate of speed” before his wife heard Heche’s car crash into their neighbour’s house.

Bernstein, who tried to assist Heche out of her blue Mini Cooper, said the flames and smoke made it “hard to breathe”, telling Fox News Digital that Heche was “conscious” but that he didn’t know how “coherent” she was.

“The smoke was just getting way too intense, we could hardly breathe,” Bernstein said. “The smoke was making it hard to breathe.”

Bernstein added that the tenant whose home Heche crashed into left her house from a side room and was “shocked” at what had happened, telling a group of people to “get out of my house” before realising what had happened.

According to Bernstein, another neighbour, Dave Manpearl, asked Heche if she was alright and she rescinded that she wasn’t.

Manpeal, who also attempted to rescue Heche from the burning car, exited when flames overtook it, telling the Daily Mail he was “positive” that she was dead.

“I was positive that the driver was dead. That she had burned up,” he said “It took at least 30 minutes for the fire department to douse the flames, extract the car and pull her out of the car.”

Heche was then transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to emergency responders.

A second witness told Fox News Digital the crash “scared the entire neighbourhood”. Yaroslav Borets added that these types of accidents don’t often occur in their neighbourhood.

“Something we will remember for a long time,” he said.

“This is generally a safe place.”

In a statement, the Los Angeles Fire Department said the vehicle had a single occupant when it crashed into a two-storey home built in 1952, and that the occupant was taken to a local hospital by paramedics.

“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure and rescued one female adult found within the vehicle who has been taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics in critical condition,” the statement read.

According to FOX 11, no other injuries were reported and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

It has also emerged that Heche joked about drinking vodka and chasing it down with wine on an episode of her podcast that was released on the day of the crash - which has since been removed from the internet.

Heche and her co-host Heather Duffy spoke about drinking vodka supplied by a podcast sponsor and chasing it with white wine, with Heche opening up about having a “bad day”.

“I don’t know what happened, sometimes days just suck and I don’t know if you ever have them [but] some days, those no good, very bad days, and some days days just end up like this,” Heche told listeners.

“Sometimes days just suck and I don’t know if you ever have them, but you know some days, Mama says just gonna be like this. Some days there’s those no good, very bad days.”

Image: Getty Images

Princess Anne shrugs at the Queen in hilarious clip

Princess Anne has been caught on camera shrugging at Queen Elizabeth II in an apparent ‘snub’ to US president Donald Trump.

In a video filmed at Buckingham Palace’s NATO reception on Tuesday evening, the Queen could be seen shaking hands with Trump and his wife Melania.

The 93-year-old monarch then looked over and noticed her daughter standing nearby. The Queen gestured at her daughter, but the princess shrugged and replied, “It’s just me and this lot.”

According to Britain’s PA Media news agency, Princess Anne was pointing to members of the royal household, including the Deputy Master of the Household, Lt Col Anthony Charles Richards, and William Peel, the Lord Chamberlain.

Social media users believed that the Queen was “scolding” Princess Anne for not greeting the president.

We're all Princess Anne in this video. pic.twitter.com/hlImWTbWCV
— Jono (@jonoread) December 4, 2019

However, the Times journalist Valentine Low said Princess Anne was not snubbing the Trumps.

Low said he found from colleague Laura Elston of the Press Association that the interaction was caused by a mix-up from the Queen.

“Princess Anne: the truth. No, she didn’t snub the Trumps. And she wasn’t told off by the Queen,” Low wrote on Twitter.

“Instead the Queen, after greeting the Donald (and the Melania), turned to Anne to see who was next. But there wasn’t anyone waiting: Trump was the last leader to be received by the Queen.

“Anne raised her hands in the air, laughed and said: ‘It’s just me’, adding a moment later ‘and this lot’ as she pointed to the members of the household behind her.

“So, the truth is now out there. Not that anyone will pay any attention. Anne the Trump Snubber is a much better story.”

So, the truth is now out there.
To celebrate the 69th birthday of Princess Anne, the Royal Family have shared a heartwarming throwback snap of the Princess Royal posing with her mother, Queen Elizabeth.

The picture was taken by Annie Leibovitz in 2016 and appears to have been a snap from the monarch’s 90th birthday shoot.

"Happy Birthday to The Princess Royal!" the Royal Family posted to social media.

"The Princess Royal, the second child of Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, was born at Clarence House on this day in 1950," they added.

Reports believe the Princess is spending her birthday alongside her mother and other family members, who may be in Balmoral with the Queen.

Younger brother, Prince Andrew also took to social media to wish his big sister a merry birthday - along with a sweet snap of them as children.

"Wishing Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal a very Happy Birthday!" he wrote with the Instagram post.

View this post on Instagram

Wishing Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal a very Happy Birthday! #happybirthdayhrh

A post shared by The Duke of York (@hrhthedukeofyork) on Aug 15, 2019 at 2:58am PDT

Princess Anne’s two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall are not on social media, so royal fans were not treated to a gushing tribute for their mother.

Scroll through the gallery above to see Princess Anne and Queen Elizabeth throughout the years.
