Madeleine McCann's parents speak out after DNA test results

Madeleine McCann's parents have spoken out after the results of Julia Faustyna's DNA test have returned.

Julia Faustyna, a 21-year-old Polish woman, has been claiming to be the missing British child in a high-profile campaign that has seen her undergo a DNA test to prove her identity.

The DNA results determined that Julia is not Maddie, despite Julia's claims of having similar facial features, suffering an abusive childhood and had starting to question her parentage as a result.

Private detective Dr Fia Johansson arranged for Julia to give samples in the US for extensive DNA tests - including a DNA test similar to a 23andMe test, which established she is not Madeleine.

The test looked into her heritage, and showed that she is from Poland, with some Lithuanian and Romanian heritage, The Sun reported, but nothing to suggest any link to the McCann's.

In response, a spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann said, “There isn’t anything to report at this time. If and when there is, it will come from The Metropolitan Police.”

Julia is also facing a nervous wait for the results of further health tests as doctors fear she may have leukaemia, Dr Johansson - with Julia’s permission - revealed to The Sun.

She said, “Her health is very poor she has bad asthma and she suffers lots of pain in her bones."

“She is booked in for a CT and MRI scan because of the pain in her bones."

“Her blood work is also abnormal so my doctor here in the US is investigating whether she could have leukaemia so we are awaiting the results of that."

“And if she needs any treatment we will make sure she gets that.”

Sad health news for woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann

The Polish woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann has been dealt a devastating blow, while in the middle of an investigation to prove her identity.

Julia Faustyna has been subject to a number of medical tests, such as DNA testing, MRIs and CT scans, which have unearthed a problem bigger than Julia's seemingly unknown heritage.

The 21-year-old may be battling cancer, her spokeswoman has revealed, and she is awaiting test results back over fears she has leukaemia.

“We are still waiting on the result of DNA testing that will show us exactly what Julia’s ethnic background is and what country she and her true family are from. These kinds of tests are very accurate,” Ms Wendell’s representative and private detective Dr Fia Johansson told The Sun.

“Of course depending on the result of that we will continue our investigation to see if Julia is could be Madeleine or another missing person."

“But now the focus is on Julia as a person - not Madeleine."

“She has had a neglected childhood and suffered much abuse."

“Her health is very poor she has bad asthma and she suffers lots of pain in her bones... and she is booked in for another CT and MRI scan."

“Her blood work is also abnormal so my doctor here in the US is investigating whether she could have leukaemia so we are awaiting the results of that. And if she needs any treatment we will make sure she gets that.”

Julia has submitted samples for three different forensic examinations that will outline her DNA sequence, along with a genetic test to establish her ancestry.

If Ms Faustyna's ancestry comes from the same region as Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, Dr Johansson said she will immediately send the DNA sequence to Portuguese investigators for comparison.

The news of Julia's deteriorating health comes just weeks after she was forced to flee her home country of Poland and relocate to the US after receiving countless death threats over her claims.

Dr Johansson said Ms Faustyna felt “terrified” after receiving threats and vile messages from online haters, with one death threat even putting a $48,000 bounty on her head.

Image credits: Instagram / Getty Images

Julia Faustyna takes DNA test to prove wild identity claims

Julia Faustyna, the Polish woman who is convinced she is the missing Madeleine McCann, has reportedly taken a DNA test to prove her claim.

However, in a stunning twist to the tale, Faustyna’s private investigation with spokesperson Dr Fia Johansson has led the young woman to consider the possibility that she may actually be another missing child - Livia Schepp, who went missing with her twin sister in Switzerland in 2011.

“I’ve spoken to her about this and she is open to the fact she could be any missing child out there,” Dr Johansson said while speaking to The Sun. “Not just Madeleine. Julia wants to know the truth about who she is.”

While Faustyna’s main argument has involved the physical similarities between herself and Madeleine McCann, one of the pivotal points in her story is how she recognised a suspect from McCann’s case - a man she has named as her own abuser.

“One of the reasons she made the connection to Madeleine is because one of the suspects in Madeleine’s case looks very much like a man who she says abused her as a child,” Dr Johansson explained. “But the same man could be connected to Madeleine and other missing children, this is how predators and traffickers work.”

“Julia has taken a DNA test,” she confirmed, “and we are investigating if it’s possible to check her DNA with that of [the] missing Livia. We are investigating all possibilities at this stage.”

Livia Schepp - and her twin sister Alessia - went missing when they were six, after their father abducted them from Switzerland in 2011. Days later, he took his own life in Italy, and when police discovered the body, the twins were nowhere to be seen.

Faustyna, who claims to have post-traumatic amnesia due to sexual abuse in her childhood, lacks clear recollection of her formative years, and has stated while she can recall holidays, she doesn’t “recall my mother being there, for example, or my stepfather, much less my dad.”

Whether or not any of Faustyna’s theories are true, the public will have to keep speculating, as no results have yet been shared.

However, Faustyna’s viral “@iammadeleinemccan”, where she was sharing updates and side-by-side comparisons with her followers, has since been deleted from the platform.

The removal coincides with reports of the DNA test, and after Faustyna closed both her Facebook and Tiktok accounts, disputing her parent’s claim that she was only in this for attention when she said “if you don’t like me, please unfollow. I don’t want fans or followers.”

Images: Instagram, Twitter

Julia Roberts learns shocking family secret

In an interview with Ancestry's Finding Your Roots series, Julia Roberts discovered a shocking fact about her connection to the Roberts family, dating back over 150 years ago.

Dr Henry Louis Gates Jr dug into her family tree and discovered that Julia Roberts' real name should be Julia Mitchells.

The revelation came after Dr Gates found that Rhoda Scuttle, the actress' great-great-grandmother, had an affair.

"Digging into Georgia's County archives, we discovered that sometime in the 1850s, Rhoda married a man named Willis Roberts," Dr Gates said.

"Julia carries Willis' last name, but Willis passed away in 1864, over a decade before Rhoda gave birth to Julia's great-grandfather, John, leading to an inescapable conclusion."

That conclusion was, "Willis Roberts could not possibly be your great-great-grandfather. He was dead."

The Pretty Woman actress was left at a loss for words, "wait, am I not a Roberts?" she asked.

Dr Gates then explained that he dug deeper into her history, using her DNA and found that she and her other relatives are linked to one man:

Henry McDonald Mitchell Jr.

"We found a cluster of matches that tie Julia and her cousin to one man," the ancestry expert said.

"So, we're Mitchells?" Julia responded in disbelief. Dr Gates confirmed that her real name should be "Julia Mitchells".

Image: Getty

"Shame on you!”: Dr Teo’s rumoured fiancée comes to his defence

Dr Charlie Teo’s alleged fiancée and former patient has spoken out publicly in defence of the disgraced surgeon and slammed recent media reports.

Traci Griffiths hit out at reports initiated through a joint investigation by 60 Minutes and Nine newspapers, resulting in claims emerging from disgruntled patients and their families that Dr Teo offered them false hope in performing procedures.

One patient claimed Dr Teo operated on the wrong side of her brain, but the 64-year-old surgeon has since rejected and corrected this claim.

In the aftermath of these claims, Griffiths took to social media to defend Dr Teo, sharing a quote from Mister Rogers: “Honesty is often very hard. “Absolute lie": Furious Charlie Teo hits back at 60 Minutes piece

Neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo has slammed 60 Minutes for claims that he charged hefty prices for futile operations that left patients severely injured and families with false hope.

In a one-on-one interview with A Current Affair’s Tracy Grimshaw, Dr Teo responded to a “comprehensive” story aired by the program last weekend, in which multiple families shared their upset about the large financial burdens placed on them and feeling that they had been given false hope by the acclaimed surgeon.

Dr Teo dubbed the report as “abhorrent and disgusting”, and while he admitted he had made mistakes in his career, he said the idea that he was simply in it for the money was false.

“For some outsiders not sitting in the room with you having a discussion with the patient, it‘s so wrong for them to judge you on what’s going on in the room,” he said.

“If someone is trying to portray me as some money-hungry bastard that was operating and hurting children based on money, that’s what I want to correct. It’s not that case.”

The surgeon, who is currently under investigation by the Health Care Complaints Commission, told 2GB host Ben Fordham on Wednesday that he does have regrets about mistakes he’s made.

“But I deny the accusation that it means nothing to me,” Dr Teo said.

“I treat all my patients like a member of my own family.”

When asked if he was sorry about the mistakes he’s made, Dr Teo said he was and that “you would have to be a sociopath” not to be sorry.

“You’d have to be a sociopath not to be sorry because every mistake means some sort of bad outcome for the patient which means quality of life issues, sometimes even death, or paralysis, inability to speak,” he added.

“I mean, if that didn’t affect you, you’d be like Dr Death, you’d be some sort of a psychopath.”

During his 60 Minutes interview, Dr Teo responded to the case of one patient who lost their vision, explaining that he never gave 100 percent certainty that the procedure wouldn’t result in blindness.

“If I had guaranteed that there was no chance of blindness, that is me saying the wrong thing, that’s misinformation,” he said.

“I don’t do that, you can’t do that and not get sued, someone will sue you one day and after 11,000 cases, you don’t think if I have set out to a handful of patients I’d be sued by those patients?

“In that case, I thought the chance of blindness was almost zero, but I never give a guarantee. They are claiming I said that I guarantee you won’t be blind, that is absolute lie, I did not say that I would never say that you be foolish to say that.”

Dr Teo revealed that he has photos of his patients on his phone to remind him of the importance of his job, saying that he carried the devastation of failed operations with him every day.

“There is a French vascular surgeon who wrote a book on the philosophy of surgery, and I don’t think you can put in any better words when he said ‘every surgeon carries with himself a small cemetery’,” he said.

“My cemetery is not small, it’s a significant sized cemetery. (I have) pictures of my patients on my phone to remind me every day I’ve got to do it better.”

While some of his former patients have been critical of the neurosurgeon, others have leapt to his defence, including 24-year-old Monica Lopresti.

After she began to lose her memory in early 2021 but her blood tests returned normal results, it wasn’t until she received the results of an MRI in 2022 that it was discovered that she had a benign cystic tumour in the middle of her brain.

Seven neurosurgeons turned her away, but Dr Teo agreed to perform surgery on her.

Ms Lopresti said Dr Teo explained the risks, which included death, paralysis and being left in a vegetative state, and that she agreed to proceed with the knowledge of the risks.

She added that “it just isn’t true” that the surgeon gave people false hope.

“I wasn’t living a life. I was always calling in sick and I wasn’t having the quality of life that I wanted,” she told news.com.au.

Since August 2021, Dr Teo has been banned from performing operations in Australia but still receives daily requests for help, telling the podcast The Soda Room that he estimates that nine patients a week are left without lifesaving care as a result.

“So the sadness of the situation is that my entire practice was mostly taking out tumours that other people called inoperable, so that was 90 per cent of my practice,” he said.

“That’s 10 tumours a week. So that means, quite conceivably, that there are nine patients a week, who are missing out on either extension of life or cure from a condition that I know that I can help. Now that’s sad.”

Images: A Current Affair

Matthew Perry reveals rendezvous with Julia Roberts

Friends actor Matthew Perry has opened up about his heated rendezvous with Julia Roberts…and other actresses.

Perry found himself on the receiving end of Roberts’ flirty messages before he found out that she only agreed to appear in Friends if they shared the storyline.

The sitcom’s co-creator urged Perry to get in touch with Roberts and “woo” her to join the series.

“I had to woo her. I wanted something a tad flirty. I sent her three dozen red roses and the card read, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers’.

“Her reply was that if I adequately explained quantum physics to her, she’d agree to be on the show.

“The following day I sent her a paper all about wave-particle duality and entanglement, and only some of it was metaphorical.

“Not only did Julia agree to do the show, but she also sent me a gift: Bagels — lots and lots of bagels.”

The pair continued to communicate via fax for three months before Roberts appeared at Perry’s doorstep.

In Perry’s new memoir Friends, Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing, he revealed that he would be rushing home to see if Roberts had faxed him back.

“This was pre-internet, pre-cell phones. All our exchanges were done by fax,” he wrote.

“I was grinning like some 15-year-old on his first date. And we had never even spoken yet, much less met each other.”

One fateful fax later, Roberts told Perry to call him and he realised that they had fallen for each other.

Later that week, Roberts appeared at his doorstep and their relationship blossomed into a whirlwind romance.

“I let her in, both figuratively and literally, and a relationship began. We would already be a couple by the time we started filming the Friends Super Bowl episode.”

Then on New Year’s Eve in 1996, Roberts took Perry to a mountain hideaway in New Mexico on her private jet to her mountain hideaway to meet her family.

But soon things took a turn with Perry unable to tame his demons and the thought of dating Julia Roberts became too much.

“Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me. I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me.

“I could never be enough; I was broken, bent, unlovable. So instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts.

“I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face.”

Later in his memoir, Perry went on to reveal that he was also interested in Jennifer Anniston but she only wanted to be friends.

He admitted that things were awkward on set but eventually he moved on from her lack of interest in him.

And in 1994, before Friends hit the world by storm, Perry met Gwyneth Paltrow at a party in Massachusetts and the pair made out.

“We slipped off into a broom cupboard and made out,” he revealed.

“This was the last summer of my life when I could make out at a party with a beautiful young woman called Gwyneth and no one, save Gwyneth and I, cared.”

Image: Getty

Airline responds to "fat-shaming" onboard comments

Dr Sydney Watson – a US-based Australian journalist and political commentator – took to Twitter on October 11 to complain about being sat between two obese people on an American Airlines flight.

Her mid-flight comments caused an immediate furore as she posted that “I am currently - literally - WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight,” along with a photo of her personal space being invaded.

“This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine. But it is something else entirely when I'm stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours.

“I don't care if this is mean. My entire body is currently being touched against my wishes. I can't even put the arm rests down on either side because there's no f***ing room.

“I'm sick of acting like fatness to this extent is normal. Let me assure you, it is not.

“If you need a seat belt extender, you are TOO FAT TO BE ON A PLANE.

“Buy two seats or don't fly.”

I am currently - literally - WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight.

This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. We're sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight.”

This however was not enough for Dr Watson who eventually found out that “what happened to me went against American Airlines own policies regarding overweight passengers.”

A few days later after her initial flight, an American Airlines worker got in contact with Dr Watson apologising for the inconvenience and offered her a $150 Trip Credit.

“I'd rather take the $150 American Airlines offered me as a refund and give it to someone who needs a PT or a gym membership,” she tweeted in response.

Still furious at what occurred on the flight, Dr Watson said she has no regrets over being in the news for fat shaming.

“I'm not sorry. I meant everything I said. Justifying obesity is NOT OKAY,” she said.

“And, rock on to anyone trying to lose weight and change their lives. I believe in you.”

Images: Twitter/Instagram

This common bathroom practice could send germs flying everywhere

No matter how thorough you are with cleaning your bathroom, there's one common mistake you could be making that regularly fills the space with germs.

According to home hacks expert Stephanie Booth, that habit is leaving the toilet lid up when you flush. You’ll probably never do it again once you hear what she has to say about it in a TikTok.

@stephanieboothrealtor Who’s still flushing their toilet with the lid open? Close that lid to stop all the nasty bacteria 💩from coming out of your toilet and landing on all your bathroom surfaces #tiptok #germs #hometips #bathroomcleaning ♬ original sound - Stephanie Booth

"Flushing with the lid open launches all that nasty bacteria from what you just put into the toilet, into the air. And all that bacteria lands on all the nearby surfaces, including your toothbrush," she said.

If you're wondering just how true this claim is, it's been backed up by Australia's favourite scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, explaining why it’s such a gross habit in a video of his own.

@drkarl Do you need scientific evidence to make your housemates flush with the toilet lid shut? Here you go 😎 #drkarl #drkarlkruszelnicki #science ♬ original sound - Dr Karl

"If you flush with the toilet lid up a polluted plume of bacteria and water vapour just erupts out of the flushing toilet bowl," he said.

"The polluted water particles, they float around for a few hours around your bathroom before they all eventually land, they will land, and some of them could even land on your toothbrush.

Putting the lid down before flushing is even more important if your toilet is right next to the bathroom vanity where your toothbrush holder sits.

In addition to putting the toilet lid down before flushing, cleaning the toilet on a weekly basis using disinfectant will also help keep the potential for germs spreading down.

Image: TikTok

Why women make up more than 80 per cent of true crime podcast listeners

It’s been a running joke for a while that most true crime podcast listeners are female.

But it has now been revealed that young women make up a whopping 80 per cent of true crime podcast listeners.

Dr Julia Shaw, a criminal psychologist and co-host of the true crime and science podcast Bad People, said the simple reason was due to women’s experiences.

She explained that growing up, women are told to keep an eye out for any danger such as a man staring at you for too long or following you home.

“Women seem particularly interested in the intricacies of the criminal mind,” she told The Daily Mail.

“There is a real drive to understand the 'why', not just the 'how' of the crime.”

Claire Bord, a publisher at Bookouture concurred with Dr Shaw’s statement explaining how easy it was for women to “resonate” with the situation.

“These kind of storylines tap into dark themes that resonate with readers because we can see ourselves in these everyday scenarios and then imagine what could happen,” she said.

“I also think there are aspects of the dark themes explored in psychological thrillers, and indeed true crime, that can speak deeply to readers who have experienced difficult times in their own lives.”

Image: Shutterstock

REVIEW: Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Warning! This article contains spoilers.

Dr Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has returned with his flying cape sidekick to save earth - but this time there’s more than one that needs help.

The unshakeable do-gooder, with his grey-winged hair, is pulled into a deadly game of cat- and-mouse.

Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) is a terrifying witch who chases America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) across different dimensions for her superpower - the ability to jump through the multiverse.

Maximoff leaves a trail of destruction in her path and it falls to Dr Strange to put an end to her madness.

If he fails, then you can wave goodbye to this earth and all the other earths floating out there in the infinite cosmos.

Hollywood is pumping out superhero movies at such a fast rate, it’s almost impossible to keep up with the pace as a viewer.

The Multiverse of Madness assumes you have watched at least one Avengers film, part of the Wanda Vision series and the first Dr Strange.

Oh, and don’t forget Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

If you haven’t seen any of them, good luck trying to understand who is who.

There’s plenty of action and exploding heads to keep the unversed audience member entertained.

Director Sam Raimi weaves in elements of horror along with a few jump scares.

His personal touch falls short of making the superhero franchise feel new. At its best, it just adds a fresh twist to an overdone genre.

There is only one annoying little detail in the film. It’s so teeny-tiny, but it hurts as much as a rose thorn stuck in your side.

It’s nothing to get worked up over. Right?

Wrong.

Most, if not all, superhero films are packed with undertones of American patriotism.

Superman wears a red cape and a blue, tight-fitting onesie (the colours of the American flag); Iron Man is held captive in a cave in the Middle East before he blasts his way to freedom (America, f*** yeah!); and Captain America needs no explanation (his name says it all).

In most cases, at least, these references aren’t screaming in your face. They dwell in the background so you can continue to enjoy the film at its surface level.

That’s not the case with Dr Strange.

America Chavez is a central character who is not only named after the United States, but she is also dressed in a jacket with the stars and stripes printed onto the back of it.

She is, literally, a walking flag of the country.

Every time Dr Strange spoke about saving America, I couldn’t help but cringe as I had a sneaking suspicion he was not referring to the young girl.

When the character needed a dialogue break, his monster-bashing sidekicks were filling in the blanks with their own toe-curling lines about America.

She needs to be saved, her powers could be used for bad if they fall into the wrong hands, with great power comes great responsibility.

Blah, blah, blah.

For all its shortcomings, Raimi manages to pull off an entertaining two hours and six minutes.

The action is backed up by strong performances from Cumberbatch, Olsen and Gomez.

Written by Aidan Wondracz.

Image: YouTube
