Maddie McCann suspect’s cellmate shares shocking confession

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann allegedly confessed to a former cellmate that he once took a child from an apartment in Portugal.

Christian Brueckner, a convicted German paedophile, has never formally been charged with the abduction of McCann but has long been the main suspect in the case.

Brueckner, who was in and around the Praia da Luz resort area on the Algarve coast at the time McCann disappeared on May 3rd 2007, has denied any involvement with her disappearance.

The 47-year-old is currently serving a seven-year sentence for a rape he committed in Portugal in 2005, while also being on trial for several unrelated sexual offences he is alleged to have committed between 2000 and 2017.

In court on Wednesday, Brueckner's former cellmate Laurentiu Codin claimed he opened up about his past while they were confiding in each other at Braunschweig Prison.

“He told me that in Portugal, he had stolen there,” Codin told Braunschweig Regional Court, The Sun reported.

“He was in an area of hotels where rich people live ... and when he went to the hotel area, there was an open window somewhere, he told me. And he would have entered this window for money and gold."

“However, he did not find any money, but came across a child and took it with him.”

He claimed Bruckner said he “left the area” and “took the child with him ... and drove away, while the place was full of police and dogs”.

“He drove off in the car and he was gone. He asked me if the DNA from a child could be taken from bones under the ground.”

After the witness said Brueckner was clever, the defendant’s lawyer asked whether he thought it was clever to tell someone in prison about such crimes, to which Codin said: “Perhaps ... he misjudged me.”

McCann disappeared from her bedroom on May 3, 2007, during a family holiday while her parents were dining with friends nearby in the resort of Praia da Luz.

German police said in June 2020 that McCann was presumed dead and that Brueckner was likely responsible for it, however, he has not been charged with any crime related to her disappearance.

New link to Madeleine McCann suspect revealed for the first time

Detectives have uncovered an email account belonging to convicted paedophile Christian Brueckner that ties him to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a court has heard.

Detective Titus Stampa told a court that the German FBI had identified two email accounts linked to the man, but was unable to discuss one of them because it was “related to the killing” of the child.

The second email account was used for trading child pornography images with people online.

However, the account had all of the messages deleted from the first half of 2007: the time Maddie vanished.

Detective Stampa refused to confirm if the “murder” account contained any “photos”, but he said investigators were also in possession of a hard drive related to the “murder” which he was not allowed to discuss.

The detective told the court, “An external hard drive is also belonging to the killing case – and I am not allowed to talk about it.”

Asked about the account used for swapping child sex abuse images, Detective Stampa said, “I can remember that things were ‘massively’ deleted in the inbox.

“There was nothing in there from January 2007.”

The revelation offered the first glimpse into the physical proof that has led German investigators to believe Brueckner kidnapped and killed Maddie.

Brueckner has long been the main suspect in the case of Maddie’s disappearance, after a key witness came forward in 2017 to report the man, who claimed that while discussing the McCann case, Brueckner said, “She didn’t scream.”

Madeleine was last seen when she was just three years old in 2007 in Praia da Luz on Portugal’s Algarve coast, when she was on holiday with her family.

The secret witness who could be the key to the Madeleine McCann case

A secret witness to a disturbing comment made by the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case could be the key to seeing him charged.

Madeleine McCann was three years old when she went missing on a family trip to Portugal in 2007, and has not been seen since.

Christian Brueckner, a convicted rapist and paedophile, has long been named the prime suspect in Maddie's abduction, and is set to stand trial on Friday for a series of charges, none of while relate to the McCann case.

Now, almost seventeen years since her disappearance, a secret witness has come forward about a disturbing comment Brueckner a year after Maddie's abduction.

Helge Busching, a former friend of Brueckner, has revealed a chilling conversation he had with his former friend after they ran into each other at a music festival.

Busching, who is currently in police protection, claims Brueckner told him Madeleine was taken without anyone noticing because she didn't make a sound.

"He said she didn't scream. 'She didn't scream', that is what Brueckner said and then I looked at Mr Brueckner and thought 'what are you telling me now?'" said Busching on 60 Minutes.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 60 Minutes Australia (@60minutes9)

In the wake of Busching's comments, the police prosecutor in Brueckner's case remains adamant he is behind the high-profile disappearance of Maddie.

"We have evidence and we come to the conclusion that Madeleine McCann is dead and Christian B murdered her," says Hans Christian Wolters.

With the 46-year-old currently in jail and facing convictions for several counts of rape and sexual assault, Wolters has the luxury of time to pursue all leads, no matter how small, to build a watertight case against the suspect.

He said, "We have only one chance and we want to go to court with the best result we could get. The path to better hearing, today

In 1902, Princess Alexandra of Denmark, who would very soon become Queen Consort of the United Kingdom alongside King Edward VII, found herself enraptured by a fascinating new device that was fast becoming the talk of Europe.

The young princess had been fitted with one of the world’s first portable electric hearing aids, and it proved to be a life-changing success.

Back in Denmark, the impact of this event became a clarion call to one Hans Demant, a bicycle manufacturer and purveyor of sewing machines. His wife, Camilla, also suffered from severe hearing loss and so, after a determined journey to London, Hans returned with a precious electric “Acousticon”.

Witnessing Camilla’s progress served as a source of inspiration for Hans to extend his assistance to a broader community of individuals suffering with hearing loss, and so he initiated the import of hearing devices from America. In 1904, Hans Demant founded the company that would later become known as Oticon, a name now synonymous with cutting-edge hearing solutions, paving the way for the modern hearing aids we know today and bringing new-found joy to millions worldwide.

Hearing health

Hearing health is a such critical aspect of our overall well-being, yet it often goes overlooked until problems arise. In New Zealand, hearing issues affect a surprisingly large portion of the population, with a 2022 EHIMA report estimating as many as one in ten New Zealanders are living with hearing loss. Sadly, a lack of awareness can lead to irregular hear- ing check-ups, which in turn leads to delayed diagnosis and treatment.

A new world of sounds

A far cry from the bulky hearing aids of over a century ago that were hailed as a miracle in the press and transformed Queen Alexandra’s life, the pinnacle of today’s devices – such as Oticon Real™ hearing aids – continue to change the way we experience the world of sound.

With their advanced processing capabilities and state-of-the-art technology, Oticon Real can help get back the real sounds of life, precise and optimally balanced, whether it’s the laughter of grandchildren, musical notes or simply the rustling of leaves in the wind.

One of the standout features of Oticon Real hearing aids is a unique technology called Deep Neural Network (DNN). This built-in intelligence has learned to recognise all types of sounds, their details, and how they should ideally sound. This means they can instantly adapt to changes, keeping you at your best wherever life takes you.

By analysing and adjusting to your environment, Oticon Real hearing aids ensure that they provide what you need to hear. They do this by reducing background noise, which can help enhance speech comprehension and allow you to engage effortlessly in conversations, even in noisy settings.

Connection is key

In today’s digital age, connectivity is paramount, and Oticon Real hearing aids certainly rise to the challenge, offering seamless connectivity to compatible* smartphones and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. You can effortlessly stream phone calls, music and other audio directly to your hearing aids, vastly enhancing your listening experience.

Improved quality of life

Perhaps the most significant benefit of Oticon Real hearing aids is their positive impact on your quality of life. Princess Mary's eldest son make surprising announcement about his future

The eldest son of Princess Mary and Prince Frederik has made a surprising announcement ahead of his 18th birthday.

Denmark's Prince Christian has broken years of royal tradition, saying he has decided to forego his royal allowance and instead prioritise his education.

One he turns 18 in October, Christian will be able to receive his royal allowance and government funding.

However, he has decided to put his education first and postpone becoming a full-time royal until he turns 21.

A statement posted on the Royal House’s Instagram page explained that his primary focus in the coming year will be completing his upper secondary education.

The statement reads, "Prince Christian's main priority in the coming year will be completing high school education. Following this, the Royal House will orient Prince Christian's further youth and education course, when the time comes."

"It has thus been agreed with the Ministry of State that support in the Danish Parliament for a law on annual pension will only be sought when the Prince turns 21 or by a possible change of the throne, if it takes place before."

The statement further shared that Prince Christian intends to stay away from the spotlight for now, but he will eventually resume public appearances in an official capacity once he has completed his education.

"I did a Christian Bale": Hugh Grant loses it on set

Hugh Grant admitted to misdirecting his anger and going off at a “nice local woman” while filming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

“I lost my temper with a woman in my eye line on day one,” Grant, 62, told Total Film magazine via Yahoo!

“I assumed she was some executive from the studio who should have known better,” he said.

“Then it turns out that she’s an extremely nice local woman who was the chaperone of the young girl.”

The British actor called his temper tantrum “terrible” and explained that his episode ended with “a lot of grovelling,” according to Page Six.

“I did a Christian Bale,” Grant teased, in reference to when Bale was caught on tape aggressively yelling at a Terminator: Salvation crew member in 2009. Later, the actor, 49, apologised profusely and called his actions “inexcusable”.

This is not Hugh Grant’s first temper tantrum, as he’s previously admitted to occasionally having a short fuse.

Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart called Grant one of the worst guests he ever had on his show, referring to the actor as “a big pain in the a**”.

Grant held himself accountable, telling Andy Cohen in 2015, “He wasn’t entirely wrong.”

“I did have a tantrum backstage. About once a year, I have a really mega-tantrum, and sadly he witnessed one. So he’s absolutely right.” He added.

Hugh Grant stars in Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves alongside Chris Pine, Justice Smith, Michelle Rodriguez, Sophia Lillis and Regé-Jean Page.

He spoke about why he was so drawn to the project, telling Collider that he liked the script was “about losers”.

“This little band of comrades, they’re all a bit crap. [Pine’s character is] not great at being a bard. And the magician, played by Justice, is really bad. What do they call magicians in Dungeons & Dragons? Sorcerer. He’s not much good,” he told the outlet.

“And Michelle’s character has been thrown out of whatever. What is she? Barbarian. And is still in love with her husband, who is in love with someone else. And I responded to that loser-ish thing about this little band.” he said.

Woman finds £35,000 dress shoved in a cupboard

A UK woman has made an amazing discovery while cleaning out her grandmother’s attic, finding that it’s also worth a small fortune too.

After finding her grandmother’s 50-year-old Christian Dior dress, Adeline Vining took to TikTok for help on dating the dress.

She received plenty of advice from viewers, as well as fashion history expert Henry Wilkinson, and decided to take the dress for valuation at Kerry Taylor Auctions, where she discovered that the forgotten gown was actually worth £35,000 ($AUD 61,986 or $NZD 68,266).

“It was a bombshell,” Vining said. “£35,000 worth of dress shoved in a suitcase in an attic for 50 years.
Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik have pulled their son Prince Christian from his high school following a bullying scandal that has sent shock waves through Europe.

They've also confirmed Princess Isabella will no longer be attending the prestigious Herlufsholm Boarding School.

The Royal couple have issued a statement announcing the move, weeks after allegations emerged of a violent culture filled with abuse and bullying at the school.

Students have also come forward, accusing the school and its staff of covering up their stories of abuse.

"The question about our son Christian's and our daughter Isabella's choice of school has been very important for us, and the unfortunate matter has brought many and strong opinions into play in the public," Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary said in a joint statement.

"That is completely understandable when it deals with the well-being of children and young people. At the same time, it has been important to stand by our basic idea that major decisions must be made on an informed basis. We now have that basis."

Their message comes after the release of a preliminary decision from Denmark's National Agency for Education and Quality that "directs a particularly harsh critique" of the boarding school.

"It has been a difficult process for us as a family, but, based on the overall picture and our special position as Crown Prince Couple, we have chosen that Prince Christian will stop at Herlufsholm and that Princess Isabella will not start in ninth class at the school after the summer holiday.

"During the summer, we, together with our children, will make a decision about their future choice of schools.

"With thoughts about the many students who will continue at Herlufsholm, it is our hope that the school now gets more peace to ensure the necessary changes and succeeds in creating a culture in which all thrive and feel safe."

A documentary has aired, which included claims from a student who described being sexually abused by another student.

Another student then spoke of corporal punishment and a third described being assaulted during a party at the school.

In November 2021, four students were expelled after being accused of taking part in the abuse and filming a number of incidents.

Some students have claimed staff turned a blind eye to these stories.

When the allegations came to light, Princess Mary and her husband issued a swift response expressing their shock and disappointment.

"As parents of a child who goes to Herlufsholm, we are deeply shaken by the testimonies that have emerged in the current documentary about the school," the Crown Prince couple said.

"It is heart-breaking to hear about systematic bullying and about the culture of abuse and violence that many have been a part of. That is completely unacceptable. As parents, we expect the school to effectively ensure a culture where everyone is safe and part of the community, and we will in the coming time follow the changes that are obviously necessary."

Herlufsholm was founded in 1565 for Danish nobility and is located 80km outside of Copenhagen in Næstved. The allegations about the school follow earlier claims about tough disciplinary practises at the institution.

Herlufsholm School responded to the documentary's claims in a statement, with the school’s rector Mikkel Kjellberg saying many of the allegations contained within the television program were "very old cases have been used from another time - where the culture at Herlufsholm was different".

He said the bullying and violence were "not part of the culture at Herlufsholm".

"Bullying, violence or sexual abuse is not acceptable at Herlufsholm School," Kjellberg added.

Princess Mary's charity issued a separate statement via The Mary Foundation. While they don't normally comment on "individual cases", the allegations contained within the documentary are "very violent and shocking".

Image: Instagram

New evidence found as Madeleine McCann's parents release statement

The German prosecutor in charge of Madeleine McCann’s case has alluded to “new evidence” in relation to the young girl’s disappearance 15 years ago to the day.

Christian Brueckner has been officially declared the first formal suspect in the case - years after Madeleine’s parents were also considered suspects but were cleared in 2008.

In a televised interview, Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters indicated there is new evidence linking Brueckner to Madeline’s murder but stopped short of revealing any more.

“We are sure that he is the murderer of Madeleine McCann. We are sure that he killed Madeleine McCann,” he said.

“The investigation is still going on and I think we found some new facts, some new evidence – not forensic evidence, but evidence.”

The potential incriminating evidence comes 15 years to the day that Madeleine disappeared on May 3, 2007, with her parents Kate and Gerry McCann releasing a statement.

“This year we mark 15 years since we last saw Madeleine. It feels no harder than any other but no easier either,” the statement read.

“It’s a very long time. Many people talk about the need for closure. It’s always felt a strange term.

“Regardless of outcome, Madeleine will always be our daughter and a truly horrific crime has been committed. These things will remain.”

Brueckner, 45, is currently serving seven years for raping a 72-year-old woman, and is being probed over the 2004 rape of a second woman and sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl at Praia da Luz a month before Madeleine disappeared

Image: Getty

Prime suspect in Madeleine McCann case breaks silence

Less than a week after being declared an official suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, Christian Brueckner has spoken out in a letter sent from his prison cell.

After the 45-year-old was named an “arguido” or “official suspect” by Portuguese prosecutors late last week, he sent a letter to an unidentified woman that was shared with the Daily Mail.

In the five-page letter, he stressed he wasn’t at the Praia de Luz resort at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance in May, 2007 and has become “the most known bad person in the world and did nothing - well almost nothing”.

“I wasn’t kidnapping anybody and of course, I wasn’t killing anybody,” he wrote.

“I’ll go further, I’ll tell you I wasn’t attacking anybody after I was 18.

“I made some silly mistakes when I was younger but who hasn’t?”

According to the Daily Mail, he then referred to the McCann case, writing: “Perhaps I was a suspect after all they found out about me.

“Drug dealer, breaking into houses, living in cars and there was something with kids when I was 17.

“But they had not even one proof (sic) that I was involved with the McCann case. And they still don’t have it.

“I know why. Because they have no hairs or anything from Maddie what means (sic) that nobody can put anything like that into my stuff to find it.

“The idea behind that all perhaps was to make the BKA (German police) and German prosecutor famous as well known all over the world as the smartest organisation ever.”

Brueckner is currently serving seven years for raping a 72-year-old woman, and is being probed over the 2004 rape of a second woman and sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl at Praia da Luz a month before Madeleine disappeared.

In the letter, Brueckner suggests that authorities were leaking information about him to portray him in a poor light, according to the Daily Mail.

“I know of about five open cases against me, all of them including raping and abusing,” he wrote.

“They have manipulated the truth in such an unprofessional way that I am laughing.

“I still have not lost my sense of humour. Even in this critical situation. This is what keeps me alive.”

Madeleine disappeared just a few days before her fourth birthday while holidaying with her parents, Kate and Garry.

The couple marked what would have been her 18th birthday last year and said they still “hang on to hope” that they will see her again.

“As we have said repeatedly, we need to know what has happened to our lovely daughter, no matter what. We are very grateful to the police for their continued efforts,” they said, per NewsTalk ZB.

“We still receive so many positive words and good wishes despite the years that have gone by. It all helps and for that, we are truly grateful.”

Images: Getty Images

Major development in Madeleine McCann case

Long-time suspect Christian Brueckner has been declared a formal suspect over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann by Portuguese authorities.

German newspaper Bild reported that Brueckner has been named as an “arguido” or “official suspect” by prosecutors, two years after he was first identified as a prime suspect by German authorities.

The 44-year-old is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the 2005 rape of 72-year-old woman at the same Praia da Luz resort Madeleine disappeared from in 2007.

Madeleine disappeared from the apartment her family was staying in on May 3, 2007, a few days before her fourth birthday.

In a statement issued by the Faro Department of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution (DIAP), prosecutors confirmed Brueckner’s status as an official suspect on Wednesday, April 20.

“As part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007, a person was made an arguido on Wednesday,” the Portiamo section of the DIAP said.

It is understood the push to declare Brueckner as a suspect after it emerged he could potentially escape charges due to Portugal’s 15-year statute of limitations for serious crimes, per news.com.au and the Daily Mail.

“The legal grounds for making Brueckner an arguido include the fact that he allegedly confessed to a friend he had snatched Madeleine and mobile phone records placed him in Praia da Luz the night she vanished,” a “well-placed source” reportedly told the Daily Mail.

“But it is obviously linked to the fact that the Portuguese authorities want to keep their options open with the 15-year deadline looming.”

Brueckner’s lawyers told the publication he hadn’t been charged over Madeleine’s disappearance.

The news comes several months after Brueckner claimed it would have been “absurd” for him to have abducted Madeleine via a string of letters broadcast on German TV.

He wrote that he survived working as a drug dealer by following “a few key principles”, including “not abducting anyone”.

“Where possible, only driving during the day so that my battered ‘hippy bus’ didn’t attract attention, only driving on the roads I needed to and, most importantly, never provoking police,” he wrote.

“So that means not committing any crimes, certainly not abducting anyone.

“Having said that, this was just as absurd to me at the time as starting a nuclear war or slaughtering a chicken.”

Image: Getty Images

Mid-flight singalong strikes the wrong chord

A man who sang a Christian worship song while strumming his guitar on board a plane has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

Jonathan Neo was on an easyJet flight when he started to sing to his fellow passengers mid-flight.

Footage of the singing was shared online by the pastor of the group Jack Jensz Jr who captioned it: “Worshipping our King Jesus 30,000 feet in the air!”

The video, which received a whopping 31 million views in just two days, showed a few of the passengers singing along with Jonathan while others looked on angrily.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jack Jensz Jr. (@jackjenszjr_)

Many people in the comments section slammed the group for inconveniencing passengers and for their lack of respect.

“No self awareness here at all. Madeleine McCann case to be closed

The 15-year investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance is set to be closed because police fear the suspect won’t be charged.

German convicted paedophile and rapist Christian Bruekner was arrested as the prime suspect in the case back in 2020.

However, police believe there is insufficient evidence to charge Bruekner, who was living in a campervan near the resort at the time of her family’s stay.

Madeleine McCann was only three years old when she vanished from her family’s hotel room at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, in Portugal’s Algarve region in 2007, while her parents had dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Scotland Yard, the headquarters of London Metropolitan Police, are set to close Operation Grange later in the year after launching it in 2010, three years after Madeleine disappeared.

“The end of the road for Operation Grange is now in sight,” a UK source told The Sun.

"The team's work is expected to be completed by autumn. There are currently no plans to take the inquiry any further."

The case was due to be closed at the end of March, but investigators applied for an extension until September in the event new evidence comes to light.

Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, both 54, have been notified of the case winding down.

Images: Getty
