"Absolute honour": Federer's stirring words as Nadal hangs up his racquet

I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all your incredible achievements in the game we love. It’s been an absolute honour.”</p> <p>Novak Djokovic also shared a message for Nadal, posting a photo collage of their friendship behind the scenes. </p> <p>“Rafa, one post is not enough to express the respect I have for you and what you have done for our sport,” the 24-time Grand Slam title winner wrote.</p> <p>“You have inspired millions of children to start playing tennis and I think that’s probably the greatest achievement anyone can wish for. Your tenacity, dedication, fighting spirit is going to be taught for decades. Your legacy will live forever."</p> <p>“Only you know what you had to endure to become an icon of tennis and sport in general. Grave cleaning videos are going viral on TikTok. Are they honouring the dead, or exploiting them?

But as millions tune in to watch the videos, it’s becoming clear not all of them are created equal. Two grave-cleaning creators in particular seem to reside at opposite ends of the trend.</p> <p>One of the first accounts to gain popularity for grave cleaning was <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@ladytaphos">@ladytaphos</a>. This account is run by Alicia Williams, a Virginia resident who treats the graves with great dignity. Williams will often share the story of the person residing within, and acts with grace and kindness as she restores beauty to the <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@ladytaphos/video/7197894295641148714">graves</a>.</p> <p>On the other end of the spectrum is Kaeli Mae McEwen, or <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@_the_clean_girl">@the_clean_girl</a>, who leans into more clickbait-y tactics. McEwen is known for throwing a pink spiky ball through a graveyard and cleaning the grave it lands on. She also uses her videos to promote her own pink foamy cleaner (which at one point could be purchased via a link in her bio).</p> <h2>Cleaning and death</h2> <p>While Williams’ and McEwen’s videos may seem novel to some, death and cleaning have a long and varied relationship that spans time and cultures.</p> <p>Washing a loved one’s body before burial or cremation isn’t just practical – it’s a significant <a href="https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/washing-and-dressing-our-dead-the-movement-challenging-how-we-grieve-20230510-p5d794.html">ritual</a> that provides meaning during a period of grief. In certain cultures and religions it’s also a process of purification, or preparation for the afterlife.</p> <p>Much has been written about cleaning and clearing out the homes of deceased people. Family members often won’t agree on how to approach such a task. In his <a href="https://theconversation.com/friday-essay-grief-and-things-of-stone-wood-and-wool-136721">essay on death and objects</a>, author Tony Birch writes about his mother clearing out his grandmother’s house.</p> <p>“My mother decided that our first task after her death was to empty out her Housing Commission flat and scrub it clean,” Birch writes.</p> <p>He first laments the move, but later recognises the value of cleaning together before sorting – and treasuring – the items his grandmother left behind.</p> <p>Margaretta Magnuson’s 2017 book, <a href="https://www.google.com.au/books/edition/The_Gentle_Art_of_Swedish_Death_Cleaning/uW00DwAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;pg=PT7&amp;printsec=frontcover">The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning</a>, is a humorous and thoughtful introduction to the Swedish movement of <em>döstädning</em>. The book (and subsequent <a href="https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/tv-series/the-gentle-art-of-swedish-death-cleaning">reality TV series</a>) has sparked various conversations on death and cleaning, and especially on cleaning before you yourself pass away so you don’t leave a mess for your loved ones.</p> <p>Grave cleaning can be seen as another continuation of caring for the deceased. People who decide to clean the graves of strangers may do so out of <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/sep/04/how-gravetok-videos-of-cleaning-headstones-went-viral">respect</a>, or in an attempt to <a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/alexalisitza/tiktok-woman-cleans-old-gravestones">give them “their name back”</a> (as names on graves become visible following the removal of debris).</p> <h2>Two very different approaches</h2> <p>Williams and McEwen are received quite differently by viewers. Anecdotally, viewers respond more positively to the calmer and more respectful cleaning videos by Williams, who takes time to explain the process while ensuring the correct products are used.</p> <p>Meanwhile, many find McEwen’s videos problematic and criticise her for not adhering to proper graveyard decorum. McEwen makes a spectacle of sites of mourning, such as by pretending to vacuum graves, replacing flowers placed by others and making jokes. Viewers also speculate the products she uses may cause damage to the graves.</p> <p>Perceived intent plays a role in how each creator’s content is received. While Williams focuses on respectfully restoring graves to their former glory, McEwen positions herself as the focus and merely uses the graves for content.</p> <h2>A complex emotional object</h2> <p>Similar to other funerary objects such as coffins and urns, graves are associated with both the person who died and the fact of their death. As such, they are emotionally complex objects that bring both strength and sadness to those left behind.</p> <p>But graves are unique also in that they are private objects of grief exposed in a public context. Anyone visiting the graveyard can view and interact with them. Does that make them “fair game” for content creators?</p> <p>Graves don’t just represent deceased loved ones. They can also act as stand-ins in their absence, becoming stone bodies of sorts. As sociologist Margaret Gibson describes in her book <a href="https://www.mup.com.au/books/objects-of-the-dead-paperback-softback">Objects of the Dead: Mourning and Memory in Everyday Life</a>, “death reconstructs our experience of objects”.</p> <p>“There is the strangeness of realising that things have outlived persons, and, in this regard, the materiality of things is shown to be more permanent than the materiality of the body,” she says.</p> <p>Caring for and cleaning graves can therefore be interpreted as caring for the deceased, by extending their existence through the materiality of their resting place.</p> <p>Psychological researcher <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/1600910X.2018.1521339">Svend Brinkmann asserts</a> artefacts such as graves are “culturally sanctioned”, gaining “significance from a collective system of meaning”.</p> <p>In other words, we as a community create and uphold reverence for such items. This is partly why the desecration of graves is viewed as abhorrent. It is societally understood to be a desecration of the person themselves. It’s also why content creators must tread lightly.</p> <h2>A reason for haunting?</h2> <p>There are ways to interact with gravestones (and even create content) which acknowledge their complexity and connection to their owners.</p> <p>TikTok creator Rosie Grant (<a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@ghostlyarchive?lang=en">@ghostlyarchive</a>) bakes recipes found on headstones and records the process. She has even met with the families of the deceased <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/defining-dishes-ghostly-archive-tiktok-b2414122.html">to make the recipes together</a> and learn more about the people behind the engraving-worthy food.</p> <p>However, randomly cleaning the graves of strangers is fraught territory – and rife with potential privacy issues. It isn’t clear whether McEwen seeks permission from loved ones before cleaning graves, but contextually this seems unlikely.</p> <p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKkOS2GjCxk">Recent discussions</a> have also uncovered questionable editing in her videos. Some graves in her before-and-after videos have been edited to appear cleaner and to have their structure altered. McEwen’s pink foaming cleaner also appears to be a blue cleaner edited to appear pink, raising even more questions about intent and responsibility.</p> <p>While McEwen claims to be “honouring” lives by cleaning “final resting places”, the consensus from viewers is her actions are dishonourable. "What an honour": Kevin Costner pays tribute to fallen Yellowstone costar

<p>Kevin Costner has paid tribute to his <em>Yellowstone</em> costar Dabney Coleman, who has passed away at the age of 92. </p> <p>Coleman, who played the role of  John Dutton, Sr. in the Paramount drama, died on Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, according to his daughter Quincy Coleman, who broke the news in a statement to <em>The Associated Press</em>.</p> <p>She said he "took his last earthly breath peacefully and exquisitely."</p> <p>“My father crafted his time here on earth with a curious mind, a generous heart, and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humour that tickled the funny bone of humanity. As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery,” she said.</p> <p>Yellowstone shared the news on Instagram with the message, "We're saddened by the passing of the Dabney Coleman, a legendary actor and member of the <em>Yellowstone</em> family."</p> <p>Kevin Costner stars as John Dutton, the son of Dabney's character on the show, paid tribute to the late actor as he shared a powerful flashback scene from the season 2 finale to his Instagram. </p> <p>Along with a photo from the moving TV moment, Costner wrote, "One of the most heart wrenching scenes I've been a part of. What an honor to have gotten to work with Dabney Coleman. May he rest in peace."</p> <p>Fans left thoughtful comments about Dabney's performance as John Dutton, Sr. on the show, with one person writing, "Most touching scene of the whole show when he played that part! He will be greatly missed." </p> <p>Dabney earned his first acting credit in an episode of <em>Naked City</em> in 1961, before he went on to appear in countless TV spots over the course of his career, including <em>The Donna Reed Show</em>, <em>I Dream of Jeannie</em>, <em>Columbo</em>, <em>Law &amp; Order: SVU</em>, <em>Recess The Guardian</em>, <em>Boardwalk Empire</em>, and <em>Ray Donovan</em> before landing his role on <em>Yellowstone</em>. </p> <p><em>Image credits: Instagram </em></p>

Airport renamed in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth

<p>An airport has been given the seal of approval to be rebranded in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth. </p> <p>The airport in the seaside town of Le Touquet in France was given the go ahead for the renaming by King Charles on Monday, as the entire royal family shared a particular fondness for the town. </p> <p>The renaming of the airport is one of the first places to get approval following Queen Elizabeth II's death on September 8th last year.</p> <p>Although there is no official date announced for when the rebrand will take place, Touquet-Paris-Plage airport will become Elizabeth II Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport.</p> <p>"The international airport of Le Touquet Paris-Plage is about to undergo a historic transformation by taking on the name 'Elizabeth II International Airport of Le Touquet Paris-Plage'," the town hall said in a statement.</p> <p>"This is a tribute to a great Queen and her uncle who had a fondness for France, as well as a recognition of the 'most British of French resorts'," it added.</p> <p>While honouring the late monarch in the name, the rebranding also acknowledges King Edward VIII, who held a love for the country before he abdicated the throne. </p> <p>Edward VIII, Queen Elizabeth's uncle, frequented the resort to enjoy horse riding and sand yachting, sometimes accompanied by his niece when she was not yet Queen.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images / Google Maps </em></p>

Loyal service dog's emotional final flight

<p>A service dog has been honoured on her final flight after being diagnosed with an untreatable cancer. </p> <p>German Shepherd Kaya was trained to support veterans suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and was in the care of handler Cole Lyle.</p> <p>After years of loyal service to Cole, Kaya was diagnosed with terminal cancer and recently boarded a South West Airlines flight in the US to live out her final days at home by Cole's side. </p> <p>Kaya received the very best treatment on the flight, and was honoured by the pilot and her fellow passengers in a heart-warming moment that has since gone viral online. </p> <p>"We have a special guest on today's flight," the pilot said. "Kays is a German Shepherd service dog who has been with her handler, Cole, since 2014. Throughout her career, Kaya flew with us over 250 times to help establish the PAWS Act which united Veterans with service dogs."</p> <p>"We are so grateful to be a part of her legacy, and we thank her and her owner, Cole, for their many years of service."</p> <p>The comments were flooded with praise for the canine, with one person writing, "Bawling my eyes out. God bless you Kaya".</p> <p>Another wrote, "I'm literally in a puddle we Stan kaya she's so beautiful and perfect we love you sweet girl."</p> <p>"We don't deserve dogs," another simply said.</p> <p>It was later revealed in the comments of the video the Kaya had passed away at home by Cole's side. </p> <p><em>Image credits: TikTok</em></p>

Lisa Marie Presley honoured in emotional Graceland memorial

<p>Over a thousand people gathered at the public memorial service in Graceland to remember the life of Lisa Marie Presley on Sunday.</p> <p>Friends and family members have shared their emotional tributes to the late star, as Lisa Marie Presley's eldest daughter was so overwhelmed with emotion that she had her husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, read the touching eulogy on her behalf.</p> <p>“Thank you for being my mother in this life,” the letter began, “I’m eternally grateful".</p> <p>In the letter, she also recalled the sweet memories she had with her late mother while growing up, and revealed that she and her husband have recently welcomed a daughter in private.</p> <p>“Thank you for showing me love is the only thing that matters in this life. I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters,” the letter read in part.</p> <p>She then thanked her mother for all the traits she got from her.</p> <p>Her strength, heart, empathy, and courage are a few mentioned in the list.</p> <p>“I’m a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart," she wrote.</p> <p>“I remember you giving me baths as a baby, driving me in my car seat listening to Aretha Franklin … taking me for ice cream after school in Florida,” she reminisced.</p> <p>“I remember you singing to me and my brother lullabies at night, and how you’d lay with us until we fell asleep,” she continued, sharing the sweet memories she also had with her late brother, Benjamin.</p> <p>“I remember how it felt be loved by the most loving mother I’ve ever known. How safe it felt to be in your arms: I remember that feeling as a child and I remember it two weeks ago on your couch".</p> <p>Priscilla Presley also shared a poem titled 'The Old Soul', written by one of her granddaughters.</p> <p>"I have no idea how to put my mother into words. Truth is there are too many,” the poem began.</p> <p>She referred to her mother as "an icon, a role model, and a superhero," and added the Lisa Marie “always knew she wouldn’t be here too long".</p> <p>The 14-year-old then went on to talk about her brother, Benjamin, who died by suicide in July 2020.</p> <p>“Could this be the angel who takes me home? She knew it was close to the end, survivors guilt some would say. But a broken heart was the doing of her death".</p> <p>Priscilla Presley then added her own message to her daughter: "Our hearts are broken. “We’ve been expecting you”: Daniel Craig receives royal honour

When you hire an actor, you're hoping you're going to spend a decade at least with them and make four or five or six films with them,” Broccoli said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It's not just flicking through <em>Spotlight</em> and saying, 'Oh, there's a guy who's 6'1"' We're going to take our time. King Charles III honours mother in first engagement after mourning

<p dir="ltr">King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, have travelled to a Scottish town with a rich royal history to honour one of Queen Elizabeth II’s final wishes.</p> <p dir="ltr">In their first joint engagement since the end of the official mourning period, King Charles and Camilla travelled to Dunfermline, north of the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where the monarch made an emotional tribute to his mother.</p> <p dir="ltr">Just months before her death, the Queen personally chose to bestow city status on Dunfermline  - a wish the King honoured on Monday.</p> <p dir="ltr">During his speech at the Dunfermline City Chambers, King Charles said the historical moment would “gladden my dear mother’s heart, as it certainly gladdens mine”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My wife and I are immensely proud to be able to share this historic moment with you,” he said, adding that the Queen’s “deep love for Scotland was one of the foundations of her life”.</p> <p dir="ltr">"There could be no more fitting way to mark my beloved mother's extraordinary life of service than by granting this honour to a place made famous by its own long and distinguished history, and by the indispensable role it has played in the life of our country."</p> <p dir="ltr">Dunfermline was one of eight towns that were granted ‘city’ status by the Queen as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.</p> <p dir="ltr">The town was chosen for its community associations and royal history, including being the burial place of Robert the Bruce and holding the title of Scotland’s capital from the 11th century until 1437.</p> <p dir="ltr">The old silk mill in Dunfermline was also the source of silks used in the Queen’s gowns for her wedding and coronation.</p> <p dir="ltr">For Monday’s historic events, which saw hundreds of people lining the streets to see King Charles and Camilla, the King wore a kilt made from Old Stewart Tartan.</p> <p dir="ltr">After the formalities concluded, the ruling couple walked to Dunfermline Abbey to mark its 950th anniversary - an act the Queen engaged in 50 years ago for the abbey’s 900th anniversary.</p> <p dir="ltr">King Charles and Camilla then ended the day in Edinburgh, hosting a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to celebrate British South Asian communities.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-b706f602-7fff-a09c-2cf4-aa5f90300a13"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Getty Images</em></p>

"I can't stop smiling": Jimmy Barnes overwhelmed by honour

<p dir="ltr">Jimmy Barnes has received an Honorary Doctorate for his distinguished service to the community. </p> <p dir="ltr">The legendary rock singer, who left school at 16 to join Cold Chisel as lead singer, was humbled when he accepted the award from the University of South Australia. </p> <p dir="ltr">The 66-year-old shared heartwarming photos to his Instagram with his family, and included a short snippet of his acceptance speech. </p> <p dir="ltr">“I am both humbled and proud to be receiving an Honorary Doctorate awarded to me by the @universitysa,” his caption read.</p> <p dir="ltr">“What an Honour. The magnitude of this occasion has only just sunk in. Queen Elizabeth's youngest maid of honour passes away

<p dir="ltr">The youngest of Queen Elizabeth’s maids of honour at her 1953 coronation passed away just one day before Her Majesty’s state funeral.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>The Times</em> reported that Lady Mary Russell died on September 18, aged 88.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Lady Mary died peacefully at home with her family around her on Sunday 18 September,” the outlet’s obituary read.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Beloved wife of David, much-loved mother of Arabella, Anthony, Philip, Jason and Marina, and dearly loved by her 12 grandchildren.”</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-256891b7-7fff-4e61-eff3-c37d885c2119"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">Lady Mary was 19 when she helped five other maids of honour in carrying the Queen’s six-metre train - which was so heavy the monarch would be unable to move without their hel[ - at Westminster Abbey during the coronation.</p> <p dir="ltr"><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2022/09/qeii-coronation.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Queen Elizabeth II with her maids of honour Lady Moyra Campbell, Lady Anne Glenconner, Lady Rosemary Muir, Lady Mary Russell, the Baroness Willoughby de Eresby Jane Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby, Lady Jane Rayne. Image: The Print Collector/Getty Images</em></p> <p dir="ltr">Her father, the Earl of Haddington, was a childhood friend of the Queen Mother and was pictured carrying the Sceptre of the Dove at George VI’s coronation in 1937.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a previous interview, Lady Mary recalled how “moving” and “overwhelming” the coronation was, as well as the honour of being one of a select few chosen to be involved in the ceremony.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It was overwhelming and moving – especially during the anointing… It was an incredible moment, but all I could think about was how heavy the embroidery felt," she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"Of all the girls our age in the country, we six girls were chosen to carry the Queen's train and that meant a great deal."</p> <p dir="ltr">Fellow maid of honour Baroness Anne Glenconner told the <em>BBC</em> that they had a taste of fame during the 1950s as a result of their role in the historic occasion, describing them as “the Spice Girls of their time”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Lady Mary’s passing comes two years after the death of Lady Morya Campbell, another maid of honour, at the age of 90.</p> <p dir="ltr">Baroness Glenconner, along with Lady Jane Lacey, Lady Rosemary Muir and Baronness Willoughby de Eresby, is still alive today.</p> <p dir="ltr"><span id="docs-internal-guid-374db8d2-7fff-8d0b-8c98-b245f6100f68"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Getty Images</em></p>

Sir David Attenborough receives unique honour

Orchestra of Ukrainian refugees to “honour the dead” at UK BBC Proms

<p dir="ltr">The BBC Proms is welcoming a special act this year, as an orchestra of Ukrainian refugees and Ukrainian musicians are expected to take centre stage.</p> <p dir="ltr">The newly-formed Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra was added to the programme of classical music “at the 11th hour”, Proms director David Pickard said, per the <em><a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-61215906" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I think sometimes you can feel rather powerless if you’re involved in the cultural world when a huge event like this war is going on, and this is a marvellous way to support the country and celebrate the power of music to cross divides,” he said.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-afb06beb-7fff-1e4c-0243-bb5b864ee854"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">The Ukrainian government has even granted an exemption to military-age male musicians so they can leave the country and play in the orchestra.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">I’m so proud that the formation of the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UkrainianFreedomOrchestra?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#UkrainianFreedomOrchestra</a> has been announced. Honouring Queen Elizabeth II on her 96th birthday

<p dir="ltr">Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her 96th birthday on April 21.</p> <p dir="ltr">Britain's longest-lived monarch has already travelled by helicopter to her Norfolk estate, where she will be joined by family and friends for celebrations.</p> <p dir="ltr">She is expected to stay at a cottage at Sandringham Estate, which was much loved by her late husband Prince Philip.</p> <p dir="ltr">A beautiful photograph capturing the Queen’s love for horses was released by Buckingham Palace in honour of the occasion.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Queen is seen wearing an olive gown standing in between her two fell ponies Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale, at Windsor Castle, who will appear at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.</p> <p dir="ltr">Every year, the Queen marks her birthday twice, once in April and again in June.</p> <p dir="ltr">The celebration in April is a small intimate one with family and is marked publicly via gun salutes in central London at midday.</p> <p dir="ltr">Queen Elizabeth’s second birthday is celebrated on the second Monday of June in Australia.</p> <p dir="ltr">The delaying of official birthdays is dated back to 1748, when George the II could not have the big celebration he wanted in November.</p> <p dir="ltr">He began the tradition in 1748 as his birthday, in November, meant he could not have the big public celebration he wanted.</p> <p dir="ltr">But it was the Queen’s great-great-grandfather Edward VII who standardised tradition by having an “official” birthday in summer.</p> <p dir="ltr">Check out the gallery below for a very special look back at some of the special images that sum up her life.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Instagram / Getty Images</em></p>

The Queen honours Prince Philip on the anniversary of his death

Grieving Maggie Beer finds amazing way to honour her late daughter

<p>Australian culinary legend Maggie Beer and her husband Colin have found a heart-felt way to honour their late daughter Saskia. </p><p>Saskia, who shared her mother's passion for cooking and ran her own business, is about to be honoured in the form of a Churchill Fellowship. </p><p>"It allows people for, say, four to eight weeks, depending on what they envisage doing, of going overseas to find something that can't be learnt in Australia... that's the strength of it, and when they bring it back, they have to give back to the community in large what they have learnt," Maggie told <em>A Current Affair</em>.</p><p>"Through the Saskia Beer Churchill Fellowship, the people who are awarded that Fellowship will pay tribute to Saskia's life and continue her legacy through their passion for food," Winston Churchill Trust CEO Adam Davey said.</p><p>Two years ago, Maggie and Colin were blindsided by the sudden death of their 46-year-old daughter, who passed away unexpectedly in her sleep in February 2020. </p><p>Maggie said the beginning of the pandemic gave their family valuable time to grieve together. </p><p>"COVID to me was a bit of a gift, to isolate... we didn't want to talk to anyone except for our very closest," Maggie said.</p><p>After her daughter passed away, Maggie found solace in the kitchen: a space that they both shared a deep love for. </p><p>"My happy place is being in the kitchen... so it gave me comfort," Maggie said.</p><p><em>Image credits: A Current Affair</em></p>

“Pint-sized explorer” takes on Kosciusko to honour his late mum

Betty White's 100th birthday honoured with unseen photo

<p>In honour of what would have been her 100th birthday, tributes have flowed online for the late Betty White.</p> <p>Thousands of show business alumni have posted their memories of Betty, with her assistant sharing what was likely one of the last photos taken of the TV legend.</p> <p>Kiersten Mikelas shared the previously unseen snap, saying, "On this special day, I wanted to share this photo of Betty."</p> <p>Kiersten said the image was taken on December 20th, just 11 days before her death.</p> <p>Posting the snap to Betty White's official Facebook page, she said, "She was radiant and beautiful and as happy as ever. <p dir="ltr"><em>Content warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised this article contains images of a person who has died.</em></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>The family of the late actor has permitted use of his image and his surname.</em></p> <p dir="ltr">Tributes to iconic actor David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu - who passed away last week - continue with the projection of his life on the sails of the Sydney Opera House.</p> <p dir="ltr">Gulpilil, a Yolηu man of the Mandhalpuyngu clan, was known for his roles in<span> </span><em>Rabbit Proof Fence</em>,<span> </span><em>Crocodile Dundee</em>,<span> </span><em>Australia</em><span> </span>and<span> </span><em>Storm Boy</em><span> </span>among others, and passed away at the age of 68, following a lengthy battle with lung cancer.</p> <p dir="ltr">Images spanning the length of his career - from his debut role in<span> </span><em>Walkabout</em><span> </span>to his last as an ailing cancer patient in<span> </span><em>I Am Gulpilil</em><span> </span>- have been displayed on Sydney’s iconic landmark, as the film industry prepares to award him with the country’s highest accolade.</p> <p dir="ltr">Gulpilil will receive the Longford Lyell Award at the AACTA Awards - Australia’s equivalent to the Oscars - on Wednesday night. The powerful spirit of the land, and his name.”</p> <p dir="ltr">He said the film industry would offer their respects to the “boy who came out from the Marwuyu bush and became a big shining star”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“He was the first shining light for me, and for everyone else who believed in him, and who saw him,” the senior Rirratiηu clan elder said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“And he made a big change, you know? He was a Yolηu Mandhalpuyngu role model.”</p> <p dir="ltr">As tributes continue, the NT government says plans for a state funeral are yet to be confirmed.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We remain in discussions with the family around their wishes for Mr Dalaithngu’s funeral,” an NT government spokesman said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“This will take time.
