5 reasons you should be eating more kiwifruit

Kiwifruit is a delicious treat that is often overlooked for flashier fruits that get desserts created around them (we’re looking at you, berries). But kiwifruits deserve our attention because not only are they 100 per cent delicious, they’re also packed with goodness. Here are just five reasons you should be adding kiwifruit to your fruit basket this autumn and winter.

One serving of kiwifruit has 240 per cent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. So it’s great at helping you fight off the flu, as well as helping your body cope with stress, the effects of aging, and boosting your immune system.

Move over bananas, kiwifruits are the real heavy hitters when it comes to potassium. If you’re a pretty active person, potassium helps you maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, and releases energy during exercise.

If you can’t stomach a bowl of bran every morning, then maybe you should eat a couple of kiwifruit instead. Just two of kiwifruits contain more fibre than that bowl of cardboard substitute does.

We’re going to go ahead and name kiwifruit as one of the antioxidant all-star team members. Antioxidants attack those nasty free radicals and other harmful by-products in your body, helping to reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke.

If you’re watching your weight, or are diabetic, you’ll love that kiwifruits are low GI So not only does that mean snack time is a treat for your mouth, it’s also going to keep you satisfied for longer.
