"Guy is clueless": Kyrgios hits back at Pat Rafter

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at Aussie tennis legend Pat rafter after he dubbed Kyrgios' doubles team with Thanasi Kokkinakis a "circus".

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis, a duo that has been dubbed the "Special Ks", took the Australian Open by storm in 2022 when they teamed up and claimed the doubles crown.

The doubles act brought their signature flair to the court, bringing audiences to their feet in a memorable display of sporting showmanship.

But Rafter said the way the pair conduct themselves during the match has ruffled feathers among those on tour and left them on the outside within the locker room.

Rafter appeared on the Australian Open: The Happy Slam podcast and labelled the doubles act as a “circus”.

“It’s an interesting one that is, because the players are really upset about it,” Rafter said.

“I don’t know how that operates with them and doesn’t really bother me either way. It’s a bit of a circus … doubles is a great event, it’s a lot of fun, and it helps you with singles, but it’s not where it’s at. But at the same time, it’s entertainment.”

“If they create drama, create ticket sales, and they create people watching, then good on them, but at what expense, I don’t know. The players are really upset. Are you supposed to understand the underwritten rule that that’s not how you behave when you do?” Rafter said.

Kyrgios hit back at Rafter on social media, slamming the Aussie sports legend for fabricating the outrage of players.

“He would have absolutely zero idea on what the locker room thinks. Me and kokk have great relationships with most of the players on tour. Guy is clueless,” Kyrgios wrote on Twitter.

Nick Kyrgios blasts Ash Barty’s historic win

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at Ash Barty’s historic win of the Newcombe Medal for a record fifth time in a row.

The 26-year-old retired tennis player won the Newcombe Medal at the Australian Tennis Awards for her Australian Open success.

This, however, did not appear to sit right with fellow Aussie Kyrgios, who said she did not deserve the medal after having only played the Australian Open this year.

In an Instagram story, Kyrgios shared a photo with Barty and his achievements in the past year, clearly showing he achieved more.

He had the caption: "LOL. No respect at all. I don't give a f***."

The graphic showed that Barty had played only three months of 2022 in which she won two singles titles and one doubles crown, including 14 matches across the two formats.

Kyrgios on the other hand had one singles title and three doubles crowns, as well as 61 victories across the two disciplines.

Despite the huge difference in numbers, it would appear that Kyrgios played better than Barty but that is not the case.

Barty won a singles grand slam and Kyrgios simply did not after losing the Wimbledon singles decider to Novak Djokovic while Barty defeated Danielle Collins.

Images: Instagram

Fan accused of being drunk by Nick Kyrgios wants to sue him

A tennis fan who was accused by Nick Kyrgios of being drunk during a Wimbledon match wants to sue him for defamation.

Kyrgios was playing against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon back in July when the Aussie star complained to the umpire about Anna Palus who was “costing him the game”.

He said Palus was "drunk out of her mind" and "looks like she's had 700 drinks" which she took offence to after being removed from the crowd.

Palus has since hired legal representation and is looking to sue Kyrgios for defamation following his comments.

“On Sunday July 10 2022 I attended the final of the Wimbledon tennis championships with my mother. It was an event we had been looking forward to for some time,” Palus’ statement read.

“During the course of the final, Nick Kyrgios made a reckless and entirely baseless allegation against me.

“Not only did this cause considerable harm on the day, resulting in my temporary removal from the arena, but Mr Kyrgios’s false allegation was broadcast to, and read by, millions around the world causing me and my family very substantial damage and distress.”

"She's drunk out of her mind and talking to me in the middle of a game. “I have been suffering”: Rafael Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon ahead of his semi-final match against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal injury, prompting his Aussie competitor to sail straight into Sunday’s men’s final.

Nadal confirmed the news on Friday morning (AEST) after it was reported that he suffered a 7mm abdominal tear during his quarter-final win against Taylor Fritz.

“Unfortunately, as you can imagine, if I am here, I have to pull out from the tournament,” he said in a press conference.

“As everybody saw yesterday, I had been suffering with pain in the abdominal. “Keep doing you”: Kyrgios goes head to head with reporter

After cinching a five-set win against Brandon Nakashima, Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios shut down a reporter’s attempts to stir up controversy.

During his post-match press conference, one reporter targeted Kyrgios’ wardrobe choices - namely the red Jordans and matching cap he wore for his fourth round clash against Nakashima - but the athlete was having none of it.

Referring to Wimbledon’s dress code rules - where players are required to wear almost entirely white while on the court - the reporter questioned why Kyrgios made such bold outfit choices in light of previous comments he made about controversy seeming to “materialise around” him.

“Because I do what I want,” Kyrgios said.

“So you’re above the rules?” the reporter hit back.

“No. I’m not above the rules,” the 27-year-old answered.

“So what is it? I’ll wear triple whites tomorrow,” Kyrgios said.

“But that’s fine then. No one else, in both draws, wear …” the reporter began, with Kyrgios interjecting: “But no one else - even after Wimbledon - no one else really walks with Jordans on the court.”

When the moderator tried to interject, the reporter apologised, saying that Kyrgios “just moaned about the controversy that surrounds him”.

“I haven’t moaned. I love it.” Kyrgios said.

“So you just laugh it off then?” the reporter asked.

“Yeah, it’s just more attention for me. What’s that saying? Any publicity is good publicity right?” Kyrgios answered.

“If you say so,” the reporter said, to which Kyrgios replied, “Keep doing you then champion”.

Kyrgios has been the subject of plenty of controversy and criticism, but has said he’s okay with it.

“I just smile,” he said. “It’s so funny. Hilarious. I almost just wake up and read things, I just laugh.

“And I never forget things. Whether it was three, four years ago, I have a massive chip on my shoulder. Nick Kyrgios' impressive pitch to Ben Stiller

After his tense and fiery quarter-final defeat at the hands of Rafael Nadal at Indian Wells – where Kyrgios dragged Stiller into things while venting his considerable frustration over the behaviour of unruly spectators – Australia's bad boy of tennis has kept things going with Stiller in a series of social media exchanges.

Kyrgios has actually had the nerve to come out and ask point blank if he could star alongside Stiller in his next film – and the response appears to be. . . yes!

Stiller sent a message to Kyrgios on Twitter following his loss to Nadal: “Great match today.”

Kyrgios responded on Sunday with: “Thanks. Maybe we can start working on the next film together, I think I got some acting in me. How is your tennis?”

Stiller followed that up with a reply on Monday morning. “I could use some help with my serve but maybe a new doubles team? We can discuss it on set …” he wrote.

Of his loss to Nadal, Kyrgios said in a post-match press conference: “This one hurts, because I know that no matches that I played before this are going to get talked about, and it’s been the story of my career."

“I played three bloody good matches. I beat one of the guys that had like nearly 60 wins last year and no one remembered that. And everyone will just remember that time where Kyrgios lost to Rafa at Indian Wells or the time that he threw the racquet.”

Kyrgios is referring to a moment after shaking hands with Nadal and the umpire, when he smashed his racquet into the ground. It then flew off and nearly hit a ballkid, who ducked out of the way just in time.

Kyrgios later made amends by contacting the ballkid, tracking him down at the courts, and gifting him a tennis racquet.

Image: Getty

Ben Stiller dragged into fiery Kyrgios outburst

Fans of Nick Kyrgios are no strangers to the tennis bad boy's on-court antics. It's part of what makes him so watchable – especially since he so often has the prowess and natural talent to back it up and get the best of the world's top players.

But this week at Indian Wells the entertaining Aussie may have let his temper get the better of him during a tense and tight loss to Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.

Nadal was able to hang on and clinch the contest 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 – but there were plenty of fiery outbursts along the way to keep the audience enthralled. After being broken in the third, Kyrgios took aim at chair umpire Carlos Bernardes for failing to keep unruly elements of the crowd quiet – with quite a few occasions of people in the crown yelling just as the second serve was about to commence.

“How long are you going to let that s**t go on for? How long? How long? How long, bro? How long?” Kyrgios yelled at Bernardes. “If you did something about it before, maybe it wouldn’t have happened.

“It happens again and again — and look at the f***ing score! Look at the score! It’s your job to control that, no one else’s.

“It’ll keep happening over and over and over again. Say something!”

In his defence, Bernardes replied to Kyrgios that he had already instructed the crowd to remain silent. That last outburst came in the third set when Kyrgios made a surprising left-turn by dragging Ben Stiller into the argument.

The Hollywood heavyweight was perched in the front row, and when someone in the crowd angered Kyrgios, he called out to that person, “are you good at tennis?” before turning to Stiller to further illustrate his point “Exactly, so don’t tell me how to play. Do I tell HIM how to act?”

Kyrgios later revved up the crowd when he won a key point, but Nadal was able to hold serve and creep ahead 6-5.

After that the match continued to slip away, as Kyrgios missed a chance to break Nadal, who then progressed through to the semis.

Images: Getty

Kyrgios fires back at critics who accused him of disrespecting Ash Barty

"Low IQ": Medvedev beats Kyrgios then takes a swipe at unruly crowd

Image: Getty

Russian world number two Daniil Medvedev had a go at tennis fans after his four-set defeat of Australian star Nick Kyrgios.

Medvedev prevailed 7-6 (7/1), 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in front of a capacity crowd on Rod Laver Arena.

Medvedev did his best to block out the crowd's loud antics during the match, even when they were whipped into a frenzy by Kyrgios. However, Medvedev's poise broke post-match in interviews, taking issue with some people in the crowd for booing or cheering between serves when two-times Australian Open champion turned tennis presenter Jim Courier asked him how he kept his emotions in check.

"Sorry, I can't hear you," Medvedev said. "Show some respect for Jim Courier, he won here. Kyrgios to reporter: "Never ask me that ever again"

Nick Kyrgios has addressed the string of injuries caused by Wimbledon’s slippery courts while joking he’s not the best person to ask about “movement” on any surface.

Kyrgios is the latest player to suffer a fall, after slipping during his winning match against Ugo Humbert on Thursday morning, following the restart of the match from the night before because of the All England Club’s 11pm curfew.

Kyrgios was visibly in pain and cried out after the fall, but fears he wouldn’t be able to continue playing were dispelled when he got up and continued to play.

His tumble came after the retirement of Adrian Mannarino and Serena Williams in the opening week of the grand slam after both players suffered injuries from their falls.

Multiple players have spoken out about the much more slippery state of the courts this year in comparison to past tournaments.

When asked about “movement” and how important it was for him to feel secure in his footing, Kyrgios commented that growing up on grass in Australia has helped but that footwork isn’t his biggest strength.

“I’m a very interesting person to ask about movement,” Kyrgios said in his post-match press conference.

“I definitely think being Australian growing up on the grass helps. I played a lot of grass courts when I was a junior … I developed my grass court game early,” he explained.

“My instincts on grass are quite good … for me it kind of comes naturally.”

He added: “To be honest, I have shocking footwork. Probably should never ask me that question again. That’s more like a Diego Schwartzman type thing I think, but I think for me it comes more naturally.

“I’m not the most flexible bloke so any time my legs spread a little bit apart I’m like, ‘Ahh’.

“Going down, it was pretty brutal. It hurt, my hip hurt. But I got back up and showed some resilience, coming with age.”

When asked whether the state of the courts had become a talking point in Wimbledon’s locker room, Kyrgios said it’s unfortunate but comes with playing on that type of surface.

“I don’t think the rain helps, especially outside courts when it gets slippery and a bit unpredictable,” he said.

“It’s just sometimes what happens on the grass. I think the game’s evolved now where there’s so many rallies and players are so capable of making so many returns or that extra ball where the body’s actually not supposed to be in those positions and then people slip over and injuries happen.”

The busy schedule most players follow doesn’t help either, Kyrgios said, with back to back matches across the French Open and Wimbledon.

“I don’t know if there’s a solution but it just is what it is on the grass … the grass has got that unpredictable factor that there’s no guarantee any time you go out there that you could be injured.”

Wimbledon have come out defending the condition of its courts following the incidents.

“Each grass court is checked by the grand slam supervisors, Referee’s Office and Grounds team ahead of play commencing, and on both days of the fortnight they have been happy with the conditions and cleared the courts for play,” officials said.

Image: Nick Kyrgios / Instagram

"It's ruining the game!": Kyrgios slams umpire about tennis tech

Aussie tennis legend Nick Kyrgios slammed chair umpire Marijana Veljovic as he launched into a verbal tirade about some malfunctioning technology that impacted his game.

Kyrgios was furious about a malfunctioning net-cord vibration-detecting device consistently played up, counting some of his serves as lets.

He complained to the umpire more than five times about the device and even hammered his racquet on top of the tap after two serves were ruled as lets.

“It’s bulls***, look at the score,” he complained to the umpire.

“It’s ruining the game. It’s ruining the game. You don’t understand it’s f***ing one-all in the fifth set.”

It could have been his third code violation of the night, but Veljovic was feeling lenient.

Kyrgios threatened to stop playing earlier in the match due to the technology continuing to malfunction.

“Turn the machine off, it’s ruining the game, you’ve gotta understand me,” he said.

“It’s missing the net by that much. How do you not understand that? Did you turn it off?

“Turn it off. I’m not playing until you turn it off. It’s this far off the net.”

He expanded on the problem in a post-match press conference, as he defeated France's Ugo Humbert in a 5-7 6-4 2-6 6-4 win.

“Having technology like that, you sound like an idiot trying to argue against it. But even when he (Humbert) was serving, it was literally this far (gestures with his hands to indicate about 20cm) over the net and the net thing went off. I was like there’s no chance this was accurate,” Kyrgios said.

“If you have a device where you can turn down the sensitivities, I just think there’s too many variables.

“I don’t know. I don’t have the solution … maybe they need to upgrade their technology.”
