Rod Stewart lists $105 million LA mansion

<p>Legendary rocker Rod Stewart has put his mega mansion on the market.</p> <p>The listing comes just days after the star’s former Malibu home was listed for an asking price of $49.5m (AU$74.2m), with the Wall Street Journal first reporting his current Los Angeles compound is asking for $70m (AU$105m).</p> <p>With a European style, situated in the gated enclave of North Beverly Park, the property spans 3,065 sqm with a pool and a soccer field.</p> <p>Although a soccer field is a rarity in LA, it’s no surprise Stewart, 78, is an avid soccer fan.</p> <p>The 78-year-old was even spotted in Malibu playing football with the Scottish national team on the beach after inviting them to play there.</p> <p>The Journal noted that according to sales records, Stewart purchased the property in 1991 for $12,08m. He also owns a home in Palm Beach, Florida.</p> <p>Images of the home showcase Old World-style finishes such as ceiling mouldings and medallions, Corinthian columns, crystal chandeliers and stunning marble floors in various patterns.</p> <p>The main house boasts nine bedrooms, one being the primary suite with a sitting room and a terrace that looks over the pool.</p> <p>The main wardrobe is also found in the primary suite — one large enough to store the rocker’s massive show collection.</p> <p>Elsewhere offers entertaining areas, including a flashy speak-easy with eye-catching jade green-painted walls.</p> <p>A main-floor great room showcases a bar and a loggia to spend time with guests outdoors.</p> <p>The listing also includes a three-stories-tall guest house with two gyms.</p> <p>Michelle Oliver of Douglas Elliman has the listing and declined to reveal why the British icon has decided to sell.</p> <p>She noted it is suitable for owners who are seeking “a return to maximalism” and for “something that looks different and stands out.”</p> <p><em>Image credit: Getty / Realtor.com</em></p>

Resistance to mega-tourism is rising in the South Pacific – but will governments put words into action?

<p>With COVID-19 travel restrictions largely a thing of the past for Australian and <a href="https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/travel/2022/12/fiji-more-popular-with-kiwi-tourists-than-it-was-pre-covid-19.html">New Zealand tourists</a>, Pacific destinations are enjoying the return of visitors – albeit at a <a href="https://devpolicy.org/the-pacific-emerging-from-covid-slowly-20221019/">slower pace</a> than in other parts of the world.</p> <p>Tourism in Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands was <a href="https://www.imf.org/-/media/Files/Countries/ResRep/pis-region/small-states-monitor/pacific-islands-monitor-issue-17-october-2022.ashx">hit hard by the pandemic</a>, but <a href="https://www.massey.ac.nz/about/news/pacific-islands-resilient-as-covid-19-topples-tourism/">patience and resilience</a> are starting to pay off. Foreign dollars are once again circulating in those small economies. Recently, <a href="https://www.mvariety.com/business/kiribati-welcomes-first-cruise-ship-visit/article_30ca4be0-b0f7-11ed-9b9d-93619a4dfba6.html">Kiribati welcomed</a> its first international cruise ship since 2020.</p> <p>But this isn’t a simple case of returning to normal. The past three years have allowed time for reflection, leading to a rising awareness of <a href="https://southpacificislands.travel/pacific-sustainable-tourism-leadership-summit-calls-on-pacific-leaders-to-work-together-to-build-resilient-futures/">possible alternatives</a> to pre-pandemic tourism models.</p> <p>From senior levels within governments to grassroots tourism operators and citizens, there has been serious discussion about the resumption of business as usual, including several <a href="https://southpacificislands.travel/2021-ends-on-a-high-with-pacific-islands-tourism-research-symposium/">regional symposiums</a> hosted by the South Pacific Tourism Organisation.</p> <p>Issues of sovereignty and future resilience have been very much to the fore – quite untypical in a global tourism industry largely focused on <a href="https://etc-corporate.org/news/europes-tourism-rebound-predicted-to-continue-into-2023/">boosting numbers</a> as soon as possible. Questions remain, however, about the gap between rhetoric and reality.</p> <h2>Flipping the narrative</h2> <p>The <a href="https://southpacificislands.travel/2022-pacific-sustainable-tourism-leadership-summit/">Pacific Sustainable Tourism Leaders Summit</a> in November 2022 brought together tourism ministers and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of regional tourism. This led to a <a href="https://southpacificislands.travel/pacific-sustainable-tourism-leadership-summit-calls-on-pacific-leaders-to-work-together-to-build-resilient-futures/">regional commitment</a> signed by 11 countries focused on promoting sustainable tourism.</p> <p>Essentially, the aim is to flip the narrative: rather than Pacific nations being seen as dependent on tourism, regional tourism itself depends on the Pacific and its people surviving and thriving. Accordingly, Pacific countries are calling for fairer and more meaningful relationships with tourism partners.</p> <p>Cook Islands’ associate minister of foreign affairs and immigration, Tingika Elikana, urged other Pacific leaders at the summit to rebuild tourism in a way that was <a href="https://www.fijitimes.com/inclusive-pacific-summit-calls-on-regional-leaders-to-work-together/">equitable and inclusive</a>, "[it] is crucial that lessons are learned from recent crises and that steps are taken to embed long-term inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience into our tourism offering as it faces evolving challenges and risks."</p> <p>Vanuatu has been heading in this direction since early in the pandemic, when it made “destination wellbeing” <a href="https://www.traveldailymedia.com/vanuatu-tourism-adopts-well-being-approach-for-covid-19-recovery/">central to its tourism recovery</a>. The aim of “moving beyond solely measuring visitor arrivals and contribution to GDP” then fed into the country’s <a href="https://tourism.gov.vu/images/DoT-Documents/Presentations/Vanuatu_Sustainable_Tourism_Strategy_2020-2030-2020_.pdf">Sustainable Tourism Strategy</a>, launched at the height of the pandemic.</p> <h2>Push-back on resorts and cruise ships</h2> <p>This reappraisal of scale and priorities has perhaps been most evident in Fiji where there has been <a href="https://www.fijitimes.com/project-unoriginal/">strong opposition</a> to a US$300 million mega-project proposed by Chinese developers.</p> <p>The hotel, apartment and marina complex would be built in an area containing one of the last remaining remnants of mangrove forest near the capital, Suva. Conservationists and local residents have been critical of the <a href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/484141/conservationist-calls-on-fiji-govt-to-preserve-rare-mangrove">environmental</a> and <a href="https://www.fijitimes.com/how-can-fiji-supply-water-to-project/">infrastructural</a> impact of the proposed development, as well as the <a href="https://www.fijitimes.com/project-unoriginal/">authenticity of its design</a>.</p> <p>There is <a href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/484710/costly-development-of-suva-forest-may-now-not-happen">now doubt</a> about whether the government will renew the developer’s lease, due to expire in June. The minister for lands and mineral resources has said “there’s been a lack of transparency” from the developers, and that he “will continue to monitor the remaining conditions of the development lease”.</p> <p>A leading opponent of the project, Reverend James Bhagwan, <a href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/484710/costly-development-of-suva-forest-may-now-not-happen">told Radio New Zealand</a>, "we'’re not anti-development, but what we’re saying is we need to look at development from a perspective that places the environment at the centre, not at the periphery.</p> <p>There is a precedent here: approval for a multi-million-dollar resort and casino development on Malolo island was revoked in 2019 after another Chinese developer, Freesoul Investments, destroyed part of a reef, dumped waste and disrupted traditional fisheries. In 2022, the High Court fined the company <a href="https://www.newsroom.co.nz/resort-developers-found-guilty-over-fiji-island-disaster-1">FJD$1 million</a>. It was the first time a developer had been punished for an “environmental crime”.</p> <p>Environmental concerns are also causing other Pacific countries to resist a return to mass tourism. In Rarotonga, Cook Islands, annual visitor numbers before the pandemic were ten times the island’s local population. The ability to cope with that level of tourism has since been <a href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/443141/cook-islanders-considering-how-much-tourism-is-too-much">seriously questioned</a>.</p> <p>And in French Polynesia, the government has <a href="https://www.nzherald.co.nz/travel/french-polynesia-the-latest-country-to-ban-mega-cruise-ships/RXY2PDLCWPAIZRVNENLHJ6Z2N4/">banned port calls</a> for cruise ships with a capacity greater than 3,500 passengers. The decision was based on concerns about air pollution, stress on the marine environment and social impacts. Daily cruise arrivals to Bora Bora are now restricted to 1,200 passengers, much to the <a href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/407885/bora-bora-calls-for-ban-on-large-cruise-ships">relief of locals</a>.</p> <h2>A new kind of tourism?</h2> <p>In the face of uncertainties due to climate change and geopolitical tensions in the region, it’s encouraging to hear local voices being heard in debates about the future of Pacific tourism – and political leaders appearing to respond.</p> <p>The Pacific Island Forum leaders’ retreat in Fiji late last month discussed the tourism industry. The forum’s signature <a href="https://www.forumsec.org/2050strategy/">Blue Pacific Strategy</a> for regional co-operation recognises tourism is an important component of national development, and the need to balance economic pressures with environmental and cultural protection.</p> <p>But despite the apparent political will and regional focus on building resilience, tourism development will undoubtedly continue to challenge the desires and initiatives of Pacific peoples seeking more sustainable futures.</p> <p>While the policy rhetoric sounds good, it remains to be seen whether Pacific governments will remain steadfast and united under mounting pressures from major cruise operators, Chinese commercial interests and large hotels looking to maximise occupancy rates.</p> <p>Many Pacific people reported the natural environment – along with social, spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing – <a href="https://www.internationaljournalofwellbeing.org/index.php/ijow/article/view/2539">improved during the pandemic pause</a> in tourism. Jennifer Hawkins builds opulent home for mystery client

<p dir="ltr">Former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and her husband Jake Wall are building a mega mansion in the exclusive suburb of Whale Beach - but it’s not for them.</p> <p dir="ltr">The couple, who own design and construction firm J-Group, are reportedly building the large home for a mystery client who bought it for just under $30 million, per <em><a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/news/pictures-show-epic-scale-of-jennifer-hawkins-30m-whale-beach-mansion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">realestate.com.au</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">A 1950s home that sat on the 3200-square-metre lot was knocked down last year, with plans already approved by the local council for a three-storey, five-bedroom house with a gym, yoga room, theatre, half-basketball court, sauna and a four-car garage, to take its place.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-220550e2-7fff-2957-05a6-13576cba0a5d"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">Before the celebrity couple had plans for it, the sprawling block already had a taste of fame, with the double block once belonging to the soprano singer Joan Sutherland.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; When hosting mega-events like FIFA, cities market themselves at the expense of the most vulnerable

<p>Few events capture the attention of the globe like the Men’s FIFA World Cup — in 2018, the event boasted a viewership of <a href="https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/mens/worldcup/2018russia/media-releases/more-than-half-the-world-watched-record-breaking-2018-world-cup">3.5 billion people</a>. Yet, despite the enormous popularity of the World Cup, <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/sports/2022/11/17/do-host-countries-make-money-from-the-world-cup">host cities and countries invariably lose money</a> on the event itself, with FIFA capturing most of the profits despite its non-profit status.</p> <p>The calculus of host cities is based on the hope that successfully hosting a World Cup (or Olympics) will significantly enhance a city’s urban brand and ultimately lead to long-term increases in tourism and foreign direct investment.</p> <p>In other words, the argument is that a successful stint as a host city will identify that city as “<a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/40643231">world-class</a>” and change its economic fortunes. This justification, at least from an economic point of view, relies on <a href="https://doi.org/10.1080/02614360500504628">some pretty fuzzy math and long-term forecasting that rarely gets audited</a>.</p> <p>I attended the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to study how various communities attempted to have their voices heard and needs met through the planning process for that event. I continue to research how hosting large-scale events intersect with other trends in global and local urbanization.</p> <p><strong>Urban branding</strong></p> <p>This mission of improving one’s urban brand to attract tourist and foreign investment leads cities to focus their attention to the perceived needs. Or, more precisely, the perceived desires of potential tourists and investors, as opposed to the needs and desires of the people who already live, work and play in these cities.</p> <p>This shift in focus is part of larger trends of cities becoming <a href="https://doi.org/10.1080/04353684.1989.11879583">increasingly entrepreneurial in our globalized world</a>.</p> <p>And to this end, host cities pursue a fairly predictable path to demonstrate their world-classness. However, the particular interventions that each city makes to create this type of world- class city are unique to their particular context.</p> <p>Unfailingly, cities significantly increase policing, both in the sheer numbers of police, military and surveillance measures as well as the powers afforded to the police and military. These powers are used to police undesirable activities and individuals — those activities and people deemed incommensurate with the desired world-class brand.</p> <p>Youth, the unhoused or precariously housed, street vendors and racialized individuals <a href="https://doi.org/10.1080/17430437.2010.520938">experience the brunt of these increases</a>.</p> <p>In South Africa in 2010, FIFA courts were established to exact “<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/21/sports/soccer/21iht-wcsoccer.html">swift and severe justice</a>” for crimes committed against tourists and journalists during the 2010 World Cup. In Qatar, there has been <a href="https://www.thestar.com/politics/2022/11/24/lgbtq-and-other-rights-issues-at-world-cup-a-huge-blemish-on-fifa-hall-of-famer.html">targeted policing of LGBTQ+ people and allies</a>.</p> <p>Additionally, the quest for this type of world-class-city brand also leads to uneven investment and under-investment as cities are forced to make choices about how to invest their municipal budgets.</p> <p>Tourist areas <a href="https://www.jstor.org/stable/25765282">see significant infrastructure investments while those off the tourist map are often ignored</a>. In the process, it exposes the already existing cracks in the system and exacerbates existing inequalities.</p> <p>The World Cup did not create the labour system and working conditions of temporary migrant workers in Doha. However, both the magnitude and speed of construction to meet hosting needs undoubtedly ramped up the exploitation of the system, leading to <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/feb/23/revealed-migrant-worker-deaths-qatar-fifa-world-cup-2022">thousands of worker deaths</a>.</p> <p>We need to reframe how a world-class city is defined to one that is more liveable, sustainable and just. King Charles’ family friend snaps up historical Sydney mansion

<p dir="ltr">A family friend of King Charles III has snapped up a historical home in Sydney’s lower north shore.</p> <p dir="ltr">Edward Dawson-Damer, the son of the seventh Earl of Portarlington and equerry (a senior attendant) to the Queen Mother, and his wife Joanne Grant paid an eye-watering $9.325 million ($NZ 10.04 million) for the 114-year-old Dalkeith mansion, per <em><a href="https://www.domain.com.au/news/king-charles-friend-buys-9-3-million-cremorne-home-2-1185842/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Domain</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Cremorne home was built in 1908 by English wool merchant and Freemasons grand master Frank Whiddon and sits on an almost 1500-square-metre block.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the early 1950s, the property was bought by the Norwegian Church Abroad, becoming the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission and providing community services to Scandinavian seamen until 1978, according to <a href="https://www.domain.com.au/8-bannerman-street-cremorne-nsw-2090-2018035301" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the listing</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">While steeped in history, their new sandstone home has also undergone major renovations and an extension, which the listing described as “contemporary updates”, including an open-plan layout, modern appliances in the kitchen and an alfresco entertainment area with an in-ground pool and sandstone cabana.</p> <p dir="ltr">The home also boasts a billiard room that was formerly used as a chapel, with stained-glass windows and the original pew featured.</p> <p dir="ltr">Inside, the art-nouveau period features have been maintained, and each of the five bedrooms come with adjoining sunrooms.</p> <p dir="ltr">It comes as an upgrade for Dawson-Damer and Grant, who offloaded their home in Vaucluse for $6.45 million ($NZ 6.94 million) last year.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-756cc629-7fff-9afa-842a-06546a58e632"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Domain</em></p>

King Charles III offloads Kiwi mansion

<p dir="ltr">In an estate that boasts the likes of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, one property belonging to the newly-minted King Charles III is located in a surprising place: northwest Auckland.</p> <p dir="ltr">But, the documents for the two-storey heritage villa in Hobsonville show the registered owner to be the Queen herself, forming part of an expansive portfolio inherited by the new king.</p> <p dir="ltr">In actual fact, the home doesn’t belong to King Charles III since Crown real estate is owned by the Defence Force.</p> <p dir="ltr">As a result, the Auckland mansion, known as Clark House, was used for Royal New Zealand Airforce operations from 1950 to 2016, when they moved out and left the home boarded up and unused.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to historical records, the Crown paid just £8000 for the home, which now holds a category 1 listing on the Historic Places Register.</p> <p dir="ltr">The home was built in 1902 to showcase innovative new building blocks created by entrepreneur Rice Owen Clark, whose family stayed in the house until it was sold to the Crown.</p> <p dir="ltr">During its use by the RNZAF, the house became the office of Task Force Headquarters and even hosted a South East Asian Treaty Organisation conference in the grand rooms in 1955.</p> <p dir="ltr">Phill Gurnsey, a general manager of estate strategy for Defence, said Clark House had most recently been used as a medical unit, with rooms upstairs acting as offices and the lower floor used for reception and medical testing.</p> <p dir="ltr">Harcourts agent Graham Lewis said the sale of Clark House was an opportunity to own a piece of New Zealand history that might not be seen again in our lifetime.</p> <p dir="ltr">“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a special buyer to purchase a slice of New Zealand’s history from the current owner, His Majesty the King,” Mr Lewis said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The building is a fine example of the Italianate villa style. Because of its role as a showpiece, no expense was spared in the building.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Most of the original features have survived, including the grand staircase, ceilings and carved mantlepieces made with timber from the kauri tree, stained glass windows, a wrought iron verandah and a tiled entry floor.</p> <p dir="ltr">As a historical building, Mr Lewis noted that potential buyers should be aware of the responsibilities and restrictions that come it, adding that the home could be turned into a lodge or fine hotel, an art gallery, or even corporate headquarters.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It takes your breath away the first time you see it. This was a supreme legacy to Rice Owen Clark’s beloved family, status and ambitions,” Mr Lewis said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I think he’d be pleased that the passion and care of a new owner will bring this home back to its former glory as a historic landmark for generations to come.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The house will be <a href="https://www.oneroof.co.nz/25-59-clark-road-hobsonville-waitakere-city-auckland-1823259" target="_blank" rel="noopener">available for tender</a> until November 21.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-3632adb5-7fff-1bd7-65a6-c2c25b884793"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Getty Images, Harcourts Realty</em></p>

Artist spends two years covering his home in doodles

I wanted to say I'd done it all myself."</p> <p>Sam has left no surface untouched, with every wall and ceiling and all amenities, including the television, stovetop and bath, covered in monochromatic doodles.</p> <p>Despite admitting he did not plan any of his drawings, Mr Cox has given every room its own theme.</p> <p>For example, the hallway is covered with Noah's Ark creations, while the stairs are decorated with Heaven and Hell drawings.</p> <p>He said, "I had a rough idea of the theme but the individual doodles are spontaneous."</p> <p>"My main inspiration still goes back to when I was kid watching Tom and Jerry, Wacky Races and SpongeBob SquarePants, and video games like Crash Bandicoot. She was mistakenly transferred $10.5m – so she bought a mansion

<p dir="ltr">A costly bungle has resulted in two Aussie women going on a spending spree and a cryptocurrency company left $10.5 million ($NZD 11.76 million) out of pocket.</p> <p dir="ltr">Thevamanogari Manivel received the hefty injection of cash after Crypto.com, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platforms, attempted to process a refund of just $100 ($NZD 111) in May last year.</p> <p dir="ltr">But, instead of sending through the refund, an account number was entered in the payment section, resulting in the accidental transfer.</p> <p dir="ltr">Seven months later, the company has launched legal action against Ms Manivel and her sister, Thilagavathy Gangadory, after discovering the error during an audit in December, per court documents.</p> <p dir="ltr">The only issue is that the sisters have already spent a chunk of the cash.</p> <p dir="ltr">The court found that Ms Manivel transferred the funds into a joint account last year, before taking out some of the money to buy a $1.35 million ($NZD 1.51 million) property in the Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn in February 2022.</p> <p dir="ltr">It’s understood that Ms Manivel bought the five-bedroom home - which reportedly includes a gym and home cinema - as a gift for her sister.</p> <p dir="ltr">The home, which sold on February 3 according to property records, is described as having a “monochrome palette”, four “designer” bathrooms, an outdoor entertaining area and an expansive kitchen/dining/family area with a butler’s pantry, per <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-vic-craigieburn-138330146">the listing</a>, </p> <p dir="ltr">According to the <em><a href="https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/cryptocom-goes-to-court-to-recoup-105m-it-incorrectly-sent-to-melbourne-woman/news-story/1e2d91d007d1257593cf5d0d99f1477d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Herald Sun</a></em>, Ms Manivel sent $430,000 ($NZD 481,000) to her daughter and transferred the ownership of the home to her sister, Ms Gangadory.</p> <p dir="ltr">Crypto.com has since won part of its legal battle after a judge in Victoria’s Supreme Court ordered that the luxury home be sold and that the $1.35 million be returned to the company, along with $27,369 ($NZD 30,644) in interest and other costs.</p> <p dir="ltr">It is believed that separate orders have been made for the remaining sum.</p> <p dir="ltr">Because Ms Gangadory failed to appear in court for the May hearing, Justice James Dudley Elliott said that “the allegations in the statement of claim are taken to be admitted”, after the reasons for his judgement were made <a href="http://publicly" target="_blank" rel="noopener">publicly available</a> last week.</p> <p dir="ltr">If Ms Gangadory doesn’t put the property on the market, a receiver could be appointed to arrange its sale or, if she ignores the orders, she could be in contempt of court, as reported by <em><a href="https://7news.com.au/news/vic/cryptocurrency-platform-cryptocom-accidentally-transfers-105-million-to-melbourne-woman-c-8058203" target="_blank" rel="noopener">7News</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“There’s no doubt that if you saw that in your account you would know it shouldn’t be there, and the onus is actually on you to actually call the sender and to say look that shouldn’t have come into my account,” Justin Lawrence from Henderson and Ball Lawyers told the outlet.</p> <p dir="ltr">“If you’re withholding property of someone else you’re effectively holding property by deception, you’re not entitled to it, you need to give it back.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The case is scheduled to return to court in October.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-c94f8e48-7fff-2553-0c20-ee3fb00a4876"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Realestate.com.au/Getty Images</em></p>

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! ABBA’s Florida mansion hits the market

<p dir="ltr">A mansion built specifically for ABBA is up for sale, and its new owners will also walk away with a collection of memorabilia, recording equipment, cassettes, and even a stereo that once belonged to the iconic Swedish pop band - as long as they can afford the $US 3.9 million ($NZD 6.21 million) price tag.</p> <p dir="ltr">The sprawling home was designed by the stars themselves in the style of a Swedish longhouse and built in 1982 - just before the band officially broke up.</p> <p dir="ltr">Bandmates Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were believed to have lived in the house until 1986, when it was purchased by an unnamed couple who lived there until they passed away earlier this year.</p> <p dir="ltr">Even after all these years, the band’s recording equipment and tapes remain completely untouched inside the home.</p> <p dir="ltr">Lisa Farmer, the listing agent with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, revealed that the architect who worked with the band to design their home had no idea that the two Swedish couples were actually the people behind <em>Waterloo </em>and <em>Dancing Queen</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We found the architect and spoke to him on the phone. He said he was in a trailer on the site before the home was built with both couples, all four members of the band, face to face, designing the home,” Farmer said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“At the time, he didn't realise it was ABBA until a few days later when he got a call from a reporter in London who apparently got wind of it.</p> <p dir="ltr">“He said he met with two Swedish couples and that's how he found out it was ABBA.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Farmer added that it was “super cool” that there were things left behind from the band that were never even used.</p> <p dir="ltr">“There's some stereo equipment that the people who bought the house never even used,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It's in this one area where [ABBA] might have done some recording. There's an actual ABBA cassette that was left inside the cassette player.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The six-bedroom home on the island of Tierra Verde features a “community space with two-storey vaulted ceilings” according to the <a href="https://www.sothebysrealty.com/eng/sales/detail/180-l-3357-7xnejq/873-2nd-avenue-s-south-bay-st-pete-pinellas-point-tierra-verde-fl-33715" target="_blank" rel="noopener">listing</a>, as well as two identical wings on each side, complete with a master suite, loft area, and two bedrooms with jack-and-jill bathrooms.</p> <p dir="ltr">Recent upgrades include a new roof with skylights, battery-ready solar panels, renovated guest baths, and a fresh coat of paint.</p> <p dir="ltr">'[The band] specifically requested a Swedish longhouse design. <p dir="ltr">Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California mansion has been the target of intruders twice in just two weeks.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Sussexes were inside their $14 million mansion in the town of Montecito with their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one when the alarm went off. </p> <p dir="ltr">Santa Barbara Police arrived at the home on May 19 at 5:44pm following reports of a trespasser. </p> <p dir="ltr">Then 12 days later on May 31 at 3.21pm, the alarm was once again triggered, just hours before the Sussexes were due to leave for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. </p> <p dir="ltr">Police attended the home once again and reported the incidents as trespassing, property crimes and “suspicious circumstances” by police. </p> <p dir="ltr">Their mansion has been broken into a total of six times in 14 months. </p> <p dir="ltr">It comes as Prince Harry won a case to sue the Home Office who cut his police protection after he left the Royal Family. </p> <p dir="ltr">Shaeed Fatima QC, who is representing Harry in court, said the Prince believes the Queen’s private secretary, Sir Edward Young “should not have been involved” in the decision. </p> <p dir="ltr">The couple have had to hire ex-President Barack Obama's former bodyguard Christopher Sanchez and Michael Jackson's former security chief Alberto Alvarez to keep them safe. </p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Getty/Sotheby's International Realty</em></p>

Inside J Lo and Ben Affleck's massive new marital mansion

<p>Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially tied the knot and it seems they’ve celebrated their nuptials by living large and purchasing a lavish new property.</p> <p>The two stars were spotted house hunting back in May, and in June, it was reported that they had settled on a stunning Beverly Hills mansion that was once owned by Danny DeVito.</p> <p>While the couple has yet to confirm if they have purchased the property, moving vehicles were also reportedly spotted outside of each of their respective homes, leading many to believe that they have now moved into the mansion together.</p> <p>Lopez and Affleck's rumored new abode was most recently owned by Australian billionaire James Packer, who's the former fiancé of Mariah Carey.</p> <p>DeVito and Perlman sold the seven-bedroom home in 2015 for $28 million to developers Stuart and Stephanie Liner. The Liners then made numerous upgrades to the estate and listed it for $85 million. Packer then bought the property for around $60 million in 2018.</p> <p>It's unclear what Lopez and Affleck paid for the house, and there's a shroud of mystery surrounding the deal, since the house was not even listed for sale when they reportedly bought it.</p> <p>In fact, real estate experts have said it hadn't even been shown off-market, with the exception, potentially, being to Lopez and Affleck.</p> <p>The house sprawls across 29,000-square-feet, which would allow ample space for the couple's blended brood of five children.</p> <p>The massive estate is also said to have many luxury amenities and perks, including an at-home movie theater, a hair salon, a gym, an entertainment room, a wine cellar, a sprawling pool, and even multiple guest houses.</p> <p>The marble kitchen is a chef’s dream, complete with two ovens, an 11-burner stove, two islands, and multiple drawers and cabinets for optimal storage space.</p> <p>The spacious dining area can seat up to 12 people, so the family will certainly have enough space to stretch out during dinner time.</p> <p>The master bedroom is fit for royalty and comes with an enormous walk-in closet with rows upon rows of storage for the couple's glamorous wardrobes.</p> <p>The mansion sits on 1.29 acres of land, and it also comes complete with an eight-car garage.</p> <p>The couple was spotted shopping for homes around various swanky areas of Los Angeles for several months before reportedly making the purchase.</p> <p><em>Images: Hilton &amp; Hyland</em></p>

Leonardo DiCaprio has listed his gorgeous $14 million mansion for rent

<p dir="ltr">If you have some splash to cash you can now experience Leonardo DiCaprio being your landlord first hand by becoming his tenant.</p> <p dir="ltr">The award-winning actor dropped $US9.9 million ( $14 million) on a gorgeous 1930-era mansion in Beverly Hills late last year and has just listed the updated estate for rent.</p> <p dir="ltr">If you have $US32,500 ($48,000) per month to spare, you could very well be calling the Revenant star your landlord.</p> <p dir="ltr">DiCaprio stands out from other celebrity homeowners because he doesn’t offload his buys swiftly or flip the homes. In fact, “[he] has retained most of his purchases, turning his less frequented homes into rental properties,” Architectural Digest.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 464-square-metre immaculately updated home boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, white oak floors and sits on just over 1100-square-metres of prime Beverly Hills Flats real estate.</p> <p dir="ltr">The rental is fully furnished and available immediately. Serious applicants will also need a $US97,500 security deposit.</p> <p dir="ltr">The space is emboldened by black Marquina granite and white Carrara marble, and includes an adjacent breakfast nook with floor-to-ceiling French doors leading out to an al fresco dining terrace.</p> <p dir="ltr">Upstairs, three ensuite bedrooms include an impressive master retreat with impressive cathedral ceiling. Supermodel Kristy Hinze Clark makes super profit on Florida mansion

<p dir="ltr">Kristy Hinze Clark and her husband, American tech titan Jim Clark, have just sold their sprawling Florida home for a record-breaking sum.</p> <p dir="ltr">The couple’s 16-acre home in Palm Beach is expected to sell for more than $US 175 million ($NZD 279 million) in an off-market deal, according to <em><a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-billionaire-bought-a-florida-home-for-94-2-million-last-year-now-hes-selling-it-for-around-175-million-11655323328" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a></em>, in a deal far exceeding Florida’s current sales record of $US 130 million.</p> <p dir="ltr">Hinz Clark and her billionaire husband are set to make around $US 81 million ($NZD 129 million) from the sale, which was a “spur of the moment purchase” 15 months ago.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to <a href="https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/2000-S-Ocean-Blvd_Lantana_FL_33462_M57433-88058" target="_blank" rel="noopener">property records</a>, the oceanfront home was bought by the couple on March 8, 2021, for $US 94,173,300 ($NZD 150,418,303), when they thought they were going to live in Florida most of the time.</p> <p dir="ltr">Mr Clark told the Wall Street Journal that, although they fell in love with the aesthetics and other features the home offered, they decided to stay in New York and enrol their two daughters there.</p> <p dir="ltr">“In the end, we sort of thought, ‘How much will we come down here?’” he recalled. “I knew there was someone who wanted it and I beat them to it so I thought, ‘Let’s see if they want it again’.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Boasting a total of 30 bedrooms spread across the 12-bedroom main home, two four-bedroom beachside cottages, the seven-bedroom Mango House, and a guest or staff house comprised of four studios.</p> <p dir="ltr">Other luxe features include a swimming pool, tennis court, golfing area, half-basketball court, fitness centre, and a spa, as well as access to a dock and pier on Lake Worth.</p> <p dir="ltr">The home itself has 360-degree views and is surrounded by 1200 feet of beach facing the Atlantic, and 1300 feet of frontage on the lake.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to the listing from its 2021 sale, the home is also within a “singular microclimate” created by the Gulf Stream, meaning it is treated to “refreshing breezes and warmer waters, even when cooler weather prevails in Miami”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“These unique conditions allowed for the creation of extensive botanical gardens that showcase neqarly 1,500 tropical species that replicate a ‘walk through the Caribbean’,” the listing reads.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Look, it’s a phenomenal property,” Mr Clark said. “You can’t find anything like that in Florida.”</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-edce07b8-7fff-9f42-4baa-b880783b24ea"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Getty Images, Realtor</em></p>

Mega mansion with odes to Hollywood hits the market

<p dir="ltr">A mansion on the top of a mountain with “million-dollar views” of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast Hinterland has hit the market - but its unique interior could be its biggest drawcard.</p> <p dir="ltr">Not only does it come with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, it also boasts its own medieval throne room, a Wild West-style saloon bar, and a Hollywood-style theatrette.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ray White Beerwah agent Alex Garden said the property, known as Chateau Cedarton, was built by a concreter who wanted his own mega mansion.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It is really unique,” Mr Garden told <em><a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/news/live-like-royalty-in-qlds-own-game-of-thrones-house/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">realestate.com.au</a></em>. “In its heyday, it would have been a really cool venue.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The medieval throne room, styled with stone tiles to create a classic castle look, is complete with two full-sized replica knights and leads into the 25-metre-long red-carpeted theatrette, decorated with Hollywood-style movie posters.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Wild West-style saloon room features timber panelling, appropriately-themed wall art and a cellar.</p> <p dir="ltr">Other internal features include a sauna and spa, as well as a formal reception area, statement kitchen, formal dining room, space for 10 cars, a pool/rumpus room, and a commercial kitchen and laundry.</p> <p dir="ltr">Outside, the 16.19-hectare block boasts just as many interesting features, such as Roman columns, a pool with its own public bathroom, and replicas of European fountains.</p> <p dir="ltr">There is also a wraparound verandah, a resort-style pool, a gazebo, fruit trees, three dams, and a workers cottage.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to the <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-cedarton-139351039" target="_blank" rel="noopener">listing</a>, the home has complete privacy despite being surrounded by large acreage homes and “hosts scenic breathtaking million-dollar views”.</p> <p dir="ltr">After spending a weekend at the home more than a decade ago, owners Victor and Lana, who have asked for their surname not to be published, said they fell in love with the property.</p> <p dir="ltr">But, their plans for transforming the home were put on hold after Victor suffered an accident which saw him undergo extensive rehabilitation two months after they moved in.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We had huge plans for it and we did open it as a function centre, restaurant and accommodation for a while, we also had visits from the elderly, from retirement villages and children with disabilities,” Lana said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“And our direction changed towards that, towards helping people who needed some peace and tranquillity.”</p> <p dir="ltr">With COVID-19 lockdowns keeping them away from half of their family in Victoria, the couple then decided it was time to sell - giving them the opportunity to move south and start their new business venture.</p> <p dir="ltr">They have freshened up the home ahead of the sale, softening some of the Tuscan palette to create a more neutral vibe.</p> <p dir="ltr">But, they have left its unique rooms untouched.</p> <p dir="ltr">“That’s what makes it so unique,” Lana said.</p> <p dir="ltr">They hope that the next owner has their own vision for the property, as Lana says the estate has “so much potential”. </p> <p dir="ltr">“It needs someone with some big plans and the ability to make them happen.</p> <p dir="ltr">“The views, the privacy, the grounds, the possibilities are endless.”</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-3423ace5-7fff-e640-f932-7f5b0de0294f"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Ray White</em></p>

Gordon Ramsay makes piping hot profit on seaside mansion

Adele shares exciting news on the home front!

<p dir="ltr">Adele and her boyfriend have announced that they have bought a new home and are moving in together a year after dating. </p> <p dir="ltr">The British singer and millionaire boyfriend Rich Paul reportedly bought the Los Angeles home - which belonged to Sylvester Stallone and his wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone - for an eye-watering $83 million. </p> <p dir="ltr">The pair have been dating for about a year and the singer announced the exciting news to Instagram.</p> <p dir="ltr">Adele shared a photo of herself and Rich outside their stunning new home, along with a series of other images giving a glimpse of their loving relationship.</p> <p dir="ltr">Captioning the post “Time Flies”, the <em>Hello</em> singer also shared a fortune cookie reading which read: “You have found good company – enjoy”.</p> <p dir="ltr">The gorgeous mansion was designed by Richard Landry and boasts eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.</p> <p dir="ltr">The main house features six bedrooms and nine bathrooms including a master suite, three spacious en-suite bedrooms, and two maids bedrooms.</p> <p dir="ltr">The luxurious master suite includes a sauna, steam room, and office with a terrace.</p> <p dir="ltr">There is also a two-story guest house with two en-suite bedrooms and a full chef's kitchen.</p> <p dir="ltr">To top it off, there is also a professional movie theatre and cigar room with an air-filtration system.</p> <p dir="ltr">There is also a gym, a massive patio outside with incredible views of the infinity pool, spa, and even a putting green. </p> <p dir="ltr">The home was on the market for about six months for a whopping $110 million, but when there were no takers, he dropped the price down to $83 million. </p> <p dir="ltr">The loved up couple sparked dating rumours last year in July when they were spotted together at an NBA game.</p> <p dir="ltr">They first claimed to have only been “hanging out” but the mother-of-one and father-of-three soon began dating.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Westside Estate Agency</em></p>
