"Totally bereft": Andrew Lloyd Webber's tragic family news

“We are all praying”: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s family heartbreak

<p>Andrew Lloyd Webber has shared the devastating news that his eldest son, Nicholas, is “critically” ill with gastric cancer. </p> <p>The composer, known around the world for his award-winning musicals, revealed that he and his family are “absolutely devastated” about the 43-year-old Nicholas’ diagnosis, and brave 18 month fight.</p> <p>In a statement to <em>People</em>, Andrew gave the update that “as my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalised.</p> <p>“I, therefore, have not been able to attend the recent previews of<em> Bad Cinderella </em>and, as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on opening night this Thursday.</p> <p>"We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner," Webber continued. "He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humour, but at the moment my place is with him and the family."</p> <p><em>Bad Cinderella </em>is Andrew’s latest Broadway creation - the 21st to his name - and is loosely adapted from the classic Cinderella story, with the titular character seeking to "create her own happily ever after.” </p> <p>It is set to open in March, and prior to the devastating news about Nicholas, he was to attend its associated press events. It’s also Andrew’s first production since<em> School of Rock</em> closed in 2019. </p> <p>Like his father, Nicholas Lloyd Webber - who is the son of Andrew and his first first, Sarah Hugill - has made a name for himself in the composing world. </p> <p>He scored BBC One’s <em>Love, Lies and Records</em>, the 2021 film <em>The Last Bus</em>, and the original cast recording album for <em>Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella</em> - from which he received his first ever Grammy nomination.</p> <p>Nicholas’ first production came in 2011, when his musical adaptation of <em>The Little Prince</em> was performed. In light of the milestone event, Nicholas admitted that he was “very nervous”, as he knew there would be attention on him as the son of Andrew. </p> <p>“But I’d like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits,” he continued, “that’s all anyone can ask for.”</p> <p>And in 2011, he told <em>The Times </em>that he’d actually opted to drop the Lloyd part of his name for a while, just to see how attitudes toward himself and his work would shift. </p> <p>“I got some stuff on the radio,” he said, “so I thought ‘okay, I’m obviously not a complete idiot’.”</p> <p>From there, he came to realise that if people were happy to work with him regardless of his surname, then “maybe I should just get on with it.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

Back to the Future stars reunite

<p>It’s been 37 years since the cinematic masterpiece, Back to the Future part 1, graced our screens. You might be wondering where they are now, although the appropriate question would be, “when the hell are they?”</p> <p>The Back to the Future stars joined up at a fan convention in Portland, USA, and the excitement from fans sighting Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas Wilson used up a lot more energy than 1.21 gigawatts.</p> <p>Last year, Fox and Lloyd came together on stage at Comic-Con in New York in an emotional display, which brought fans in the audience to tears.</p> <p>On stage, Fox said, referring to his co-star Lloyd, “The best part of the movie was working with Chris,” going on to say he was a genius, also revealing there was “immediate chemistry” between the pair.</p> <p>Fox played the iconic Marty McFly in the 1985 movie. Director Robert Zemeckis had originally cast Eric Stolz as Marty, however, due to conflict with his schedule on Family Ties, Stolz couldn’t continue with the project.</p> <p>Stolz started filming in November 1984 but was replaced by early January. Aside from the schedule conflict with Stolz, it was reported that early footage was also underwhelming. Now that’s heavy!</p> <p>Fox officially joined the production in mid-January of 1985.</p> <p>Fox played Marty McFly in all three Back to the Future movies, Great Scott!</p> <p>The fans are on a sweet nostalgia trip seeing the cast back together after over three decades.</p> <p><em>Image credit: Instagram</em></p>

"Where's mum?" Sea World helicopter crash survivor's heart-breaking question

I’m not going to leave you alone,” Simon recalled. </p> <p dir="ltr">“He’s a strong-willed boy. He’s a good kid.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Simon also recalled the final conversation he had with his wife before she boarded the helicopter with Nicholas. </p> <p dir="ltr">“I remember saying to my wife, I was thinking it’s amazing how quick they turn over these helicopters,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My wife just turned around to me and said, “Babe, I’m sure they know what they’re doing””.</p> <p dir="ltr">Simon shared that he hasn’t been able to properly grieve the loss of his wife as he spends every minute at Nicholas’ bedside. </p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s been hard, it’s a daily struggle … I don’t leave his bedside until 12, 1 in the morning,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Even leaving to go lay my wife to rest … it was just hard to keep my mind focused on the one thing, I didn’t want to leave him… but we gotta do what we gotta do.”</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-4354fcc6-7fff-a400-4ab6-5881ff20d5a6"></span></p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image credits: Nine News / Instagram </em></p>

Musical mastermind pens King Charles’ coronation anthem

<p>Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has been revealed as the creative driving force behind King Charles III’s coronation anthem. </p> <p>Webber’s work is one of 12 commissioned, and personally selected by Charles, for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on the 6th of May. The piece includes words adapted from Psalm 98, and is scored specifically for the abbey’s choir and organ to encourage “joyful noise”.</p> <p>"I am incredibly honoured to have been asked to compose a new anthem for The Coronation," Webber said in a statement from Buckingham Palace. "I hope my anthem reflects this joyful occasion."</p> <p>The coronation’s program is set to include older music and newer compositions in a bid to reflect Britain in 2023 by merging the traditional and the modern.</p> <p>"The decision to combine old and new reflects the cultural breadth of the age in which we live,'' said organist and master of choristers at Westminster Abbey Andrew Nethsingha. </p> <p>"Coronations have taken place in Westminster Abbey since 1066,” he added, “it has been a privilege to collaborate with his majesty in choosing fine musicians and accessible, communicative music for this great occasion."</p> <p>The ceremony will also include pieces by English composers William Byrd, Edward Elgar, Henry Walford Davies, William Walton, Hubert Parry, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as German-British composer George Frideric Handel and contemporary Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. </p> <p>The musical talents of Sarah Class, Nigel Hess, Roxanna Panufnik, Shirley J Thompson, Judith Weir, Roderick Williams, Debbie Wiseman, Tarik O'Regan, and Paul Mealor will also be featured. </p> <p>Altogether, 12 pieces were commissioned and created for the event - six orchestral, five choral, and one organ. Additionally, it is said the coronation will include personal touches, one of such a musical tribute to Charles’ father, Prince Philip. </p> <p>Philip was born a prince of both Greece and Denmark, and was in the line of succession for both thrones. As such, King Charles III requested Greek Orthodox music be played, to be performed by the Byzantine Chant Ensemble. </p> <p>While many specifics are still unknown, many have no doubt that the 18th century hymn <em>Zadok the Priest </em>will feature. After all, it has been played at every coronation since 1727, when it was commissioned for King George. </p> <p>As Buckingham Palace said in a statement, “a range of musical styles and performers blend tradition, heritage and ceremony with new musical voices of today, reflecting The King's lifelong love and support of music and the arts.”</p> <p>And for those eager to hear even more of the music surrounding the event, a concert is set to be held at Windsor Castle the following night on May 7, with many international headlining acts rumoured to play. </p> <p><em>Images: Getty </em></p>

Neighbours star welcomes baby boy

<p><em>Neighbours</em> star Ben Nicholas and his wife Stephanie have welcomed a baby boy into their lives. </p> <p>Ben, who played Scott ‘Stingray’ Timmins on the show, is adjusting to his new life as a dad just days after Stephanie gave birth to Jesse Lilja Nicholas last Thursday.</p> <p>“On the 23rd of June we welcomed our little bundle of poop and sleep deprivation into this world,” he announced on Instagram. </p> <p>“My super hero wife was an absolute beast, couldn’t have been prouder or more in awe! Being afraid to break your fashion “rules”</strong></p><p dir="ltr">With youth and thinness dominating the fashion industry and the beauty standards we often evaluate ourselves by, it’s no surprise that many of us are overly hard on ourselves and have “rules” we follow when choosing what clothes to wear.</p><p dir="ltr">“In-store, I sometimes hear ‘I don’t like my arms’, ‘I can’t wear a crew neck because I have a large bust’, or ‘I need something to cover my bum’,” Lindsay says.</p><p dir="ltr">As scary or uncomfortable as it may feel, challenging these thoughts and trying something new can lead to some amazing results.</p><p dir="ltr">“We never want people to feel uncomfortable, but we love it when we can get people to try something that they thought was off limits to them and they get genuinely excited,” Lindsay says.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>2. And wear your beautiful pieces everyday… don’t save them for a special occasion.”</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>4. Find a store that might push you a little out of your comfort zone, but not push you over the edge.”</p><p dir="ltr">Lindsay says doing this can have dramatic results and can be just as enjoyable an experience for the stylist.</p><p dir="ltr">“I can tell when I put together something my client loves the second they walk out of the fitting room. They carry themselves differently,” she says.</p><p dir="ltr">“As a designer and boutique owner, and as a former image consultant, it is one of the best parts of my job.”</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>5. Falling for the narrative surrounding older women’s fashion</strong></p><p dir="ltr">This one’s a doozy, but an important one that ties all the other mistakes together. </p><p dir="ltr">“After I turned 50, so many of the marketing materials I received showed the most dowdy and conservative styling,” Lindsay says. </p><p dir="ltr">“You even see it on the morning talk shows when they have a story on retirement or ageing, the images behind them are often insulting to those of us over 50.</p><p dir="ltr"><span id="docs-internal-guid-e34f4ff6-7fff-54e5-efa4-69dab3e10475"></span></p><p dir="ltr">“I don’t see myself in them.”</p><p dir="ltr"><img src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/2022/02/fashion-mistakes.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="720" /></p><p dir="ltr"><em>Lindsay Nicholas challenges the norms of fashion available to older women, and her line of womenswear echoes that. Have you ever spotted this mistake in The Sound of Music?

<p>American-born actor Nicholas Hammond appeared on Rove’s new program Show Me The Movie! and was left stumped after one question from the host.</p> <p>Hammond, who played the eldest son Friedrich von Trapp, and the other panellists were shown a clip from the iconic musical when the von Trapp children performed “So Long Farewell”.</p> <p>Rove asked the panellists if they could spot the continuity error that appeared in the scene.</p> <p>Hammond, who might've been blinded by his memories of shooting the scene, couldn’t give the correct answer.</p> <p>“So no pressure... you were in this scene Nicholas Hammond from The Sound of Music,” Rove said.   </p> <p>“The mistake is obvious... the mistake is my dancing,” Hammond laughed.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fshowmethemovietv%2Fvideos%2F169114590569452%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560" width="560" height="315" style="border: none; overflow: hidden;" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe> </p> <p>When Rove went to the rival team to see if they could give an answer, captain Joel Creasey confessed that two of the teammates had never watched the movie.</p> <p>“Leave the room!” Hammond joked, causing the audience to break out in laughter.</p> <p>After the contestants failed to spot it, Rove revealed that the mistake was with the von Trapp children’s choreography.</p> <p>The children were seen several feet away from the end of the carpet at one point but then seconds later they are standing at the very edge.</p> <p>Hammond was only 15 when he starred in the movie alongside Julie Andrews.</p> <p>He later starred in the <em>Amazing Spider-man</em> '70s CBS series and has not yet retired from acting.</p> <p>In the last few years he has appeared in several productions and has a role in upcoming Australian show<em> Ladies in Black.</em></p> <p>He now lives with his partner Robyn Nevin in Southern Highlands, south of Sydney.</p> <p>Did you ever spot this mistake in <em>The Sound of Music</em>? 5 things you don't know about Andrew Lloyd Webber

<p>Andrew Lloyd Webber has built an empire through composing songs for musical theatre. Musicals that Andrew has under his belt include <em>The Phantom of the Opera</em>, <em>Cats</em>, <em>Evita</em> and <em>Jesus Christ Superstar</em>. It is estimated that this composer has a personal fortune that exceeds $200 million. Here are five interesting facts that you may not know about this legendary mastermind.</p> <p><strong>1. His first composition was at the age of 9</strong></p> <p>Andrew grew up with music being a key part of life in his family. His father William was the director of the London College of Music and his mother Jean was a piano instructor. During his childhood years, Andrew could play the piano, violin and French Horn. His first composition, <em>The Toy Theatre Suite</em> was published when he was only nine years old.</p> <p><strong>2. His childhood dreams</strong></p> <p>When Andrew was a child he had aspired to be Britain’s chief inspector of ancient monuments. He received a Challenge Scholarship to Westminster and entered Oxford as a history major in 1965. He only spent one term at Oxford, however, as he left to work on musical <em>The Likes of Us</em>. This musical was never produced.</p> <p><strong>3. His breakthrough</strong></p> <p>In college Andrew was introduced to a lyricist Tim Rice. After the pair worked on <em>The Likes of Us</em>, they worked on <em>Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat</em>. This musical was given a favourable review by a Sunday Times music critic. In their next venture, Andrew and Time worked on the successful <em>Jesus Christ Superstar</em> which came out in 1971. Due to the success of the album, the production had advance ticket sales that generated over $1 million.</p> <p><strong>4. He doesn’t care about the opinion of critics</strong></p> <p>Andrew’s 1989 musical <em>Aspects of Love</em>, received many negative reviews. The production revolves around a circle of friends’ love lives. Although he received negative reviews, Andrew saw it as a valued work due to the stories relatability to all audiences. He told the New York Times the production would, “outlive and outlaugh all my other shows, because 100 percent of the world loves love. The reviews from the critics are of no interest to me.”</p> <p><strong>5. He wrote two songs for Elvis Presley</strong></p> <p>Andrew and Tim Rice wrote two songs for Elvis Presley’s album Moody Blues. The songs were ‘It’s easy for you’ and ‘Please Don’t Let Lorraine Come Down’.</p>

Man who saved 669 Jewish children from Holocaust reunited with them 50 years later

<p>In 1939, Sir Nicholas Winton saved the lives of 669 Jewish Czechoslovakian children destined for the Nazi concentration camps by organising their rescue and passage to Britain. An unassuming hero, he kept his role in the rescue secret for half-a-century – even from his family. When his wife discovered a scrapbook containing the names of the rescued children in 1988, she convinced him to share his story.</p> <p>On an episode BBC’s That’s Life, Sir Winton was reunited with the people he saved.
