Olympic legend given just two years to live

<p>British Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy has announced that his cancer is terminal.</p> <p>In an interview with <em>The Sunday Times</em>, the six-time Olympic cycling champion revealed that doctors have told him he has between two and four years to live. </p> <p>He told the publication that he had initially been diagnosed with cancer in his prostate, which had spread to his bones. </p> <p>Despite the terminal cancer diagnosis, the athlete remained positive and expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he has been receiving since the article's publication on Sunday. </p> <p>"You may see in the news this weekend some articles about my health, so I just wanted to reassure you all that I'm feeling fit, strong and positive," he wrote on Instagram.</p> <p>"Overwhelmed by all the love and support shown to my family and me. Sir Ian McKellen shares health update after fall

<p>Sir Ian McKellen has admitted his health is deteriorating, after he <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/sir-ian-mckellen-rushed-to-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fell off stage</a> during a performance in a London theatre a few months ago. </p> <p>The<em> Lord of the Rings</em> actor was starring in a production of Player Kings at the Noel Coward Theatre when he fell off stage and snapped his wrist. He also chipped a vertebrae, but has now revealed that he has other issues too. </p> <p>“I forget names … When you’re older you’ve got more to remember than people who are young," he said. </p> <p>“Nevertheless, it’s a nuisance when you can’t remember your best friend’s name or forget your telephone number.”</p> <p>Despite being 85, the actor is determined to keep working, but said that he will take time off until 2025. </p> <p> “What else would I be doing if I wasn’t working? I shall take the rest of the year off and then get back to work in January," he shared. </p> <p>“Just keep at it as long as the legs and the lungs and the mind keep working.”</p> <p>He is also eager to reprise his role as Gandalf in the 2026 film <em>The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum</em>, which would be his first appearance as the wizard in 12 years.</p> <p>In an interview for the BBC, he said: “Well, I’ve had some indication from the powers that be, Gandalf will make an appearance, and I’m not letting anybody else put on the pointy hat and beard if I can help it.”</p> <p><em>Images: Jeff Moore/ Shutterstock Editorial</em></p>

Sir Elton John reveals "severe" health issue

<p>Music icon Sir Elton John has revealed that he is currently suffering from "only limited vision" in one eye after battling a severe eye infection over the summer. The 77-year-old legend shared the news with his fans through an Instagram post, where he also provided an update on his recovery process.</p> <p>"Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye," Sir Elton wrote. He went on to say that while he is healing, the process is slow, and it will take time before he fully regains sight in the affected eye. "I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye."</p> <p>The singer, who has been a legendary figure in the music industry for decades, expressed his gratitude for the support he has received during this challenging time. "I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks," he said.</p> <p>Following his announcement, many celebrities and fans have shared their well-wishes for the star. Fashion designer Donatella Versace commented, "Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you." Tennis legend Billie Jean King also expressed her support, writing, "Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend."</p> <p>Sir Elton John, renowned for timeless hits such as "Your Song", "Rocket Man", and "I'm Still Standing", has sold over 300 million records worldwide. Sir Roger Moore's grave in Monaco vandalised

<p>The grave of Sir Roger Moore has been vandalised, with brazen thieves taking off with a large family crest that was featured on the late James Bond actor's headstone. </p> <p>The desecration was first noticed by a fan of Moore's, who said he stopped by the small exclusive cemetery in Monaco to see the former 007's resting place. </p> <p>As the man searched for the grave, he noticed Moore's headstone was set apart by the others after he realised a large family crest, which adorned all the other Moore family headstones, was missing. </p> <p>The fan posted pictures of the gravestone online, stirring up outrage among fans. </p> <p>He told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/06/25/roger-moore-grave-site-vandalized-monaco-shield-stolen/?adid=social-tw" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>TMZ</em></a> he was outraged that someone would meddle with a grave, James Bond legend or not, as others echoed his sentiment. </p> <p>The fan said he was "equal parts shocked and p****d someone would desecrate any grave - but especially one belonging to the James Bond legend".</p> <p>One person wrote on X, "If this doesn’t shake you up, it should stir you up a bit… why would anybody vandalise Sir Roger Moore’s grave?"</p> <p>Another added, "So disrespectful! Sir Ian McKellen rushed to hospital

<p>Sir Ian McKellen has been rushed to hospital after he fell off stage during a performance in a London theatre. </p> <p>The <em>Lord of the Rings</em> star, 85, was starring in a production of <em>Player Kings</em> at the Noel Coward Theatre when he lost his footing during a tense fight scene. </p> <p>The actor then tumbled off the stage and into the audience, who heard his cries for help as theatre staff rushed to his aid, according to reports from the <em>BBC</em>. </p> <p>The audience were informed that the remainder of the evening performance had been cancelled and they were evacuated from the premises.</p> <p>Sandro, Trapani, a member of the audience who spoke to the <em>BBC</em>, described the moment as "very shocking."</p> <p>"I really hope that he is going to be alright," they said. Peter Andre announces baby daughter's name

<p>One month after the birth of his daughter, Peter Andre has finally shared his new baby's name. </p> <p>The announcement comes four weeks after Andre and his Emily MacDonagh shared the news of their daughter's arrival, while admitting to their fans they were <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/help-name-our-baby-peter-andre-s-extraordinary-plea" target="_blank" rel="noopener">struggling</a> to find a name. </p> <p>Emily picked out the name of their daughter, as Peter took to Instagram to share the news. </p> <p>"I think you've chosen a beautiful name, [Emily]. Sir Richard Branson in serious bike crash

<p>Richard Branson, the adventurous billionaire and founder of Virgin Group, is no stranger to pushing the limits. However, his latest escapade – a biking mishap on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands – left him with shocking injuries, adding to a long list of near-death experiences throughout his life.</p> <p>In a recent Instagram post, Branson shared the aftermath of his bike crash, recounting how he flew off his bike after hitting a pothole on the picturesque island.</p> <p>The accident resulted in severe cuts on his elbow and a haematoma on his hip. Remarkably, despite the intensity of the crash, Branson escaped without any broken bones, though the same could not be said for his biking companion, Alex Wilson, who also took a spill but thankfully emerged relatively unscathed.</p> <p>"Took quite a big tumble while cycling in Virgin Gorda a little while ago!" Branson wrote. "I hit a pothole and crashed hard, resulting in another hematoma on my hip and a nasty cut elbow, but amazingly nothing broken.</p> <p>"We were cycling with Alex Wilson, who fell after me, but thankfully he was ok as well. "Indescribable loss": Sir Michael Palin shares tragic news

<p>Sir Michael Palin has revealed that his beloved wife, Helen Gibbins, has died.</p> <p>Palin made the devastating announcement on his own website, with an update titled ‘Helen’. </p> <p>“My dearest wife Helen died peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday morning,” he wrote. “She had been suffering with chronic pain for several years, which was compounded a few years ago by a diagnosis of kidney failure.</p> <p>“We first met on a summer holiday on the Suffolk coast when we were both sixteen and we married in our early twenties. Two and a half weeks ago we celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary.</p> <p>“Her death is an indescribable loss for myself, our three children and four grandchildren.</p> <p>“Helen was the bedrock of my life. Her quietly wise judgement informed all my decisions and her humour and practical good sense was at the heart of our life together.</p> <p>“The family ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”</p> <p>Just one year prior, Palin had also revealed that the then-79-year-old Helen had moved into respite care, with <em>The Guardian</em> reporting it was due to her body not responding to pain medications.</p> <p>As he told <em>The Telegraph</em> at the time, “I don’t think you can cure it, but they will help her manage it.</p> <p>“It’s such a bore. She was so active and still is, mentally. But we’re both getting on a bit. The body is declining. She’s going to be 80 in October, I’m going to be 80 at the beginning of next year. </p> <p>“We live life with our fingers crossed.”</p> <p>The 79-year-old comedian had enjoyed over a half-century of marriage with his “dearest wife”, after the two first crossed paths at the tender age of 16, with the pair even celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary mere weeks before her passing.</p> <p>Gibbins - who spent her days working as both a teacher and a bereavement counsellor - shared three children with Palin - 54-year-old Thomas, 52-year-old William, and 48-year-old Rachel. </p> <p>In his 2015 interview with <em>The Telegraph</em>, the actor opened up about his experience meeting Gibbins on a holiday in Southwold, naming her “a vision of rebellion”, and how they kept in touch after going home.</p> <p>Unfortunately, the pair lost touch again for the next two years, until they ran into each other once again through mutual friends at Oxford University. </p> <p>As Palin himself said of the less-than-ideal start to their lengthy relationship, “you can see fate was actually tightening the screws on us very hard at that time.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

"Arise, Sir Brian!": Legendary rocker knighted by King Charles

<p>Queen guitarist Brian May has been knighted by King Charles for his extraordinary contribution and influence on the music industry. </p> <p>The 75-year-old rockstar was supported by his wife of 23 years, actress Anita Dobson, along with other members of his family for the special day.</p> <p>He was not only honoured for his musical work, but also for his many years of working with charities. </p> <p>The songwriter and animal welfare advocate, who also has a PhD degree in astrophysics, has earned the new title of Sir Dr Brian May. </p> <p>May took to Instagram to share a photo of the honour formally being awarded to him as King Charles placed a sword on his shoulders.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Prince Harry and Meghan Markle share a special message with Sir Elton John

<p dir="ltr">Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared a personal message with Sir Elton John.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ahead of his farewell concert at the Dodgers Stadium, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were featured in a compilation video showing stars paying tribute to Sir Elton ahead of the gig that aired live on Disney+.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the clip, Prince Harry said: “Thank you for being the friend that you were to my mum. Thank you for being our friend, thank you for being a friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people right around the world.</p> <p dir="ltr">Even though this is officially your retirement, this will not be your last gig and we know that. Elton John's glamorous new digs

<p dir="ltr">Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish have set their sights on their new home: a yet-to-be-completed penthouse in Toronto.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a recent interview with <em>Globe and Mail</em>, the couple revealed that they had bought one of the bespoke penthouses in the King Toronto complex.</p> <p dir="ltr">The music icon and filmmaker have chosen an apartment called the “Treehouse”, as reported by <em><a href="https://storeys.com/a-condo-in-the-wind-inside-elton-john-new-toronto-penthouse/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Storeys</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">Designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, the complex includes six penthouses that are described as like “living on a mountaintop”, according to developer Westbank. </p> <p dir="ltr">While they are all custom-designed, all of the penthouses share a natural theme integrated using trees, foliage, and outdoor terraces - with the Treehouse even boasting an actual tree.</p> <p dir="ltr">The new two-storey home of the Rocket Man singer will also feature four terraces, an inner courtyard, and an interior that will include a wine cellar and curved sculptural staircase.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It has great views over the west and south,” says Riz Dhanji, president at Rad Marketing, who represents Westbank.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It has a unique tree in the middle of the unit as part of an artistic factor, a custom brass kitchen designed by Bjarke Ingels, and a stunning brass curved staircase that’s custom designed. Sir Tom Jones collapses

<p>Sir Tom Jones has been forced to postpone a concert in Budapest, after he collapsed just hours before being scheduled to take to the stage. </p> <p>The 82-year-old singer was treated by private doctors, who advised he postpone the concert. </p> <p>Local news outlets reported that an ambulance was not called to the venue, but Jones' private physicians attended to him backstage.</p> <p>A message from the venue in the Hungarian capital translated to English said, "Unfortunately following doctors' advice, Tom Jones regrets he is unable to perform at the MVM Dome this evening."</p> <p>"The show will be rescheduled to Tuesday 16th August 2022. All tickets will remain valid for the revised date."</p> <p>"Sir Tom sends his sincere apologies for the inconvenience created but looks forward to performing for you in August."</p> <p>There has been no further update on Jones' condition.</p> <p>Sir Tom has been jetting around the world for his much-anticipated Surrounded By Time tour and has been sharing regular snaps of his travels and shows on Instagram. </p> <p>His ongoing European and US tour features more than 50 dates and the singer is due to perform in cities across Germany, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway and Belgium over the coming weeks.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images </em></p>

Sir David Attenborough receives unique honour

<p dir="ltr">Sir David Attenborough now has not one, but two knighthoods, after receiving the honour in recognition of his conservation and television broadcasting work. </p> <p dir="ltr">The iconic naturalist was awarded the prestigious Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George - an honour usually reserved for diplomats -  by the Prince of Wales, a fellow passionate campaigner for environmental issues.</p> <p dir="ltr">Sir David was first knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1985, and collected his newest medal at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, June 8.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 96-year-old is also the first recipient of the award without a diplomatic background.</p> <p dir="ltr">"At Windsor Castle, Sir David Attenborough is invested by the Prince of Wales as a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George," the royal family's official Twitter account read.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-10b3145b-7fff-7984-3276-8df103779362"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">"Congratulations Sir David!"</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">🌍 Well done to Sir David Attenborough, who was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George, for his lifetime of work in broadcasting and promoting the importance of the natural world and its conservation. <a href="https://t.co/tRLEIreV3R">pic.twitter.com/tRLEIreV3R</a></p> <p>— The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall (@ClarenceHouse) <a href="https://twitter.com/ClarenceHouse/status/1534582171440230404?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 8, 2022</a></p></blockquote> <p dir="ltr">Clarence House, the social media account for Prince Charles and Camilla, also shared the news, along with one photo from the investiture and another of Sir David with a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne meeting a cockatoo.</p> <p dir="ltr">The nature presenter has had a close relationship with the royals for a number of years, particularly with the Queen, her late husband Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Prince William.</p> <p dir="ltr">In 2019, he established the Earthshot Prize with Prince William to inspire innovative solutions to current global environmental challenges.</p> <p dir="ltr">As part of the recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Sir David delivered a message about climate change and the planet that was projected onto the front of Buckingham Palace.</p> <p dir="ltr">His speech was followed by one from Prince William, who praised Sir David and the Queen for their commitment to the environment</p> <p dir="ltr">"Today, in 2022, as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, the pressing need to protect and restore our planet has never been more urgent," Prince William told the audience.</p> <p dir="ltr">"But like her, I am an optimist.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It's my firm hope that my grandmother's words are as true in 70 years time as they are tonight.
